FabFitFun Unboxing: What’s New?

When you think of subscription boxes off the top of your head, FabFitFun is most likely one of the first to come to mind. It’s one of the most popular and successful subscription services today, and businesses don’t become that way without good reason. So, let’s find out what all the hype is about in this FabFitFun unboxing.

It’s been a few years since we’ve done a FabFitFun unboxing, so it’s time to update you all on what FabFitFun is up to. Quite a few things have changed since our last review, such as prices, packaging, and the contents of a box. I’ll give you all the details to help you figure out if FabFitFun boxes are still worth it.

Is FabFitFun Worth It Up Front

FabFitFun is a great way to try new products you never knew you needed. My box gave me six items at about 75% off. Half of them were brands I already knew and loved, and the other half were products I now love after testing them out. The pace at which FabFitFun sends boxes (quarterly) is also a lot more manageable than other subscription boxes that send products monthly.

FabFitFun Pros

  • They send boxes quarterly instead of monthly, which is a more manageable occurrence.
  • You can slightly customize your box, choosing a few items that will be included and adding on extras.
  • The signup quiz is extensive, so the odds are that you’ll get stuff you love.
  • You can skip boxes and receive a credit to use for future add-ons or sales instead.
  • The box ships really fast.
  • They include well-known name brands and brands you may have never heard of.
  • The value of the boxes is insane! You get way more than what you paid for.
  • Everything inside the box is actually useful and not trinket-like.

FabFitFun Cons

  • I got way less in this season’s box than they usually include.
  • You can not return or exchange any products inside your FabFitFun box
  • There is a limited number of products available, so you may miss out on something you really wanted in your box.

What Is FabFitFun?

FabFitFun is a subscription service that sends you boxes of goodies seasonally. All of the products are focused on beauty and wellness from name brands you may have heard of before. You get to try out a bunch of products curated for you while paying less than the original price. And who doesn’t love trying out new things at a fraction of the cost?

How It Works

There are two subscription plans you can sign up for, annually or seasonally. Both give you four boxes a year, but the annual membership is paid upfront at a discounted rate, and you get a few extra benefits. Annual members can choose everything in their box and have earlier access to customizations, add-ons, and edit sales.

They charge you for the box first thing, which I don’t really love. I like to see what I’m getting myself into before inputting my card information by taking the initial quiz and seeing what type of products I could get.

The signup quiz is in-depth, asking you about your skin type, your style, routines, and a lot more. Even though it takes a while to fill out, it’s well worth it so the curators can pick out products perfect for you.

Each season, FabFitFun will send you a survey to narrow down what goes in your box even further. You will also get an email when customization and add-on items are open to choose what goes in your box.

If you wish to stop receiving FabFitFun boxes, you can either cancel your subscription or skip a box. FabFitFun calls skipping a box “swapping it for credit.” You still get charged a quarterly fee, but you get a credit to use for future add-ons or weekly sales instead. Make sure you cancel your subscription directly after receiving a box if you wish to no longer get any more.

What You Get

Every FabFitFun box comes with up to eight different items, plus a FabFitFun magazine and usually some coupons. The products in your box can be anything from home goods to health and wellness to beauty products. Generally, you’ll find a piece of makeup, a skincare item, some sort of fashion piece, a hair product, and assorted lifestyle and home items.

You’ll most likely have heard of a lot of the brands that are included in each box, such as Free People, Living Proof, Our Place, Blaq, and Kate Spade. These are not cheap brands, and I’m already a loyal customer of a few I’ve seen in previous boxes. However, there are almost always a few brands I’ve never heard of in each box that I’m eager to try out.

With each box, you have the option to add extra items. You can find the add-on products when you receive the email asking you to customize your box.

How Much FabFitFun Boxes Cost

Purchasing individual FabFitFun boxes costs $59.99. New members get a discount code, bringing the first box to $47.99. When Alizabeth did her winter box review, they were only $49.99, so the price has increased recently, but the value hasn’t gone up.

Becoming an annual member can save you even more money. You pay more initially, but each box only costs $54.99 if you pay for all four seasonal boxes up front.

FabFitFun can make these boxes affordable by brokering a deal with the brands as a sort of advertisement to attract new customers. They also buy things in massive quantities, giving them a discount which transfers over to savings for you. You, in turn, get up to 70% off individual items.

You can also receive credits to use towards add-ons and edit sales by referring a friend. Once your friend has signed up, a $15 credit will be applied to your account.

My Experience With FabFitFun

I got my FabFitFun box extremely fast, within a couple of days, to be exact. So, all the excitement from ordering the box was still alive when I received it. Here’s how unboxing my FabFitFun winter collection went.

The Packaging

You might be a little confused when you first grab your box off the porch because it’s simply a brown packaging box. But don’t worry! That brightly designed FabFitFun box you’ve seen pictures of is within the boring box. I assume it is to keep it from getting damaged.

The box has tons of writing all over it, with phrases and brands you can find in your box. Mine had information on how to win $1000. Once opened, you’ll find thick brown packing paper, which is a step up from the thin tissue paper they used to wrap up Alizabeth’s previous winter box.

My box also looks a lot more put together than Alizabeth’s did. Everything was organized neatly inside, so I could see everything I was getting as soon as I removed the packing paper.

What Came In My FabFitFun Box

You can get up to eight items inside your FabFitFun box, but I only got six in this one. Below are the products I received and what they are worth:

  • Coach Headband-$50
  • Free People Blanket-$78
  • Citrine Cocktail Glasses 2 piece-$26
  • Topicals Eye Masks-$22
  • Natura Ekos Hand Cream-$18
  • Marlyn Schiff Necklace-$38

While this box was not nearly as valuable as Alizabeth’s previously reviewed box, hers worth almost $100 more, I still was pleased with the money I saved. I got 75% off of everything based on how much I paid for this box, which is a steal!

Even though, I’m not super happy that FabFitFun raised the price of each box by $10 and made them less valuable. I also didn’t get the FabFitFun magazine that came in Alizabeth’s box, which I’m pretty bummed about. They may have forgotten to include it in my box, or they stopped making them. Either way, it’s not a great look for FabFitFun.

Testing Out The Products

My favorite item out of this box is the Free People blanket. Alizabeth didn’t have great luck with the throw blanket she received in her winter box, but this one is so cute, super soft, and pleasantly warm. When I first touched it, I actually thought it could be alpaca wool, which, if you’ve never felt it, is one of the coziest materials out there.

The Coach headband and Marlyn Schiff necklace are both very minimalistic in style. I can pair these with almost anything inside my closet, and they are great for winter outfits.

I don’t typically splurge on household items. I’m more of a second-hand, thrift shop type of girl when it comes to those types of things. So, seeing citrine cocktail glasses inside my box was a delightful surprise. They’ll add the perfect amount of luxury to my bar cart.

My favorite part of these boxes is the skin care products because I love me some self-care. The Topicals eye mask comes in a pack of six and is not the gooey globs you usually get with eye masks. They, instead, are a gel-like serum on the back of a fabric piece that sits under your eyes. They got rid of my morning puffiness and all without making a mess.

The Natura hand cream was the perfect addition to my winter box because I wash my hands often. This one is an eco-friendly product with the tube being aluminum instead of plastic, and it has vegan, fairtrade ingredients. The hand cream works really well, being a buttery consistency and keeping my hands soft for hours.

Other Subscriptions Like FabFitFun

While FabFitFun is an excellent box for all-around products, there are many other subscriptions like it that niche down a bit more. Below are a few I recommend if you want to try something slightly different.

Ipsy

If you’re focused on beauty and want more skincare, makeup, and haircare, Ipsy is for you. They have two different subscription options that get sent to you monthly. The Glam Bag is $13, and Boxycharm is $28. Each comes with five products to try, except one bag is sample size and the other is full size. You’ll find brands like Urban Decay, Nars, Bare Minerals, and Clinique.

AllTrue

AllTrue, formerly CauseBox, is very similar to FabFitFun in the way that you can get a bunch of different lifestyle items, except everything is sustainable and ethically sourced. You’ll receive a box worth $250 or more thrice a year for $64.95. They also have an essentials shop where you can buy eco-friendly products more than three times a year, like bamboo toothbrushes and upcycled toilet paper.

BeautyFix Dermstore

Dermstore has a luxury subscription service that sends you top-name brands in the skincare world, like Jane Iredale and First Aid Beauty. Skinceuticals is another brand they throw in your boxes and is my all-time favorite skincare brand, but it is expensive! However, their boxes start at just $24.95 with five luxury name-brand items.

FabFitFun FAQ’s

Question: Is FabFitFun easy to cancel?

Answer: FabFitFun is easy to cancel as long as you do so before your next billing cycle. Go to the “My Subscription and Orders” tab on your profile and find the cancel button. Alternatively, you can skip a box and receive a credit for future purchases.

Question: Can you return FabFitFun items?

Answer: FabFitFun does not let you return or exchange items. I don’t know how strict they are with this because I have never had to return anything. However, they will replace items in specific circumstances if customer support is contacted within two weeks of delivery. It doesn’t hurt to try if you’re unhappy with something in your box.

Question: Is FabFitFun monthly?

Answer: No. FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription service. They will send you a box four times yearly, all coordinated with the upcoming season.

Question: Can you buy a single FabFitFun box?

Answer: You can, but you will have to do it in a roundabout way. While you can’t purchase a single FabFitFun box, you can subscribe when you want the box they are releasing and then cancel your membership after it is delivered. It’s kind of a pain, but some of these boxes are worth it!

My Overall Opinion of FabFitFun

I never keep subscriptions that come every month for the long haul because I usually end up with a bunch of stuff piled up that I eventually forget about. FabFitFun boxes are a great way to try out new things without getting ambushed with products every month. Sending boxes quarterly is the perfect frequency for me.

I also love that there is a mixture of brand names I already know and love, plus brands I’ve never heard of before. It gives me that sense of knowing what I’m getting while also being happily surprised.

Everything I received in this FabFitFun box is stuff I know I will use, which is rare with other boxes. I find myself thinking, “That’s nice, but I don’t know when I’ll ever use this,” a lot with subscription boxes. This one has practical stuff in it that is also super cute!

The only thing I don’t love is that FabFitFun raised the price while dropping the box’s value compared to our last review. If I came into this review never knowing that, I would say FabFitFun is extremely valuable. Unfortunately, I know that, and it throws me off a bit.
