Love with Food breaks the mold of healthy snacking, by avoiding the overplayed foods of granola, nuts, and dried fruit. This new snacking experience is exciting, but is it worth it?

I snagged one of their previous boxes to find out!

The Company – Love with Food

Love with Food is a company that does good while providing goodness in their products. They are a snack service based out of California that focuses on healthy, minimal ingredient snack products.

For every box you order and every product you buy from their store, they donate at least one meal to a food bank. Love with Food guarantees that every snack they put in their boxes has no artificial flavoring, coloring, or MSG, no trans fats and hydrogenated oils, and no high fructose corn syrup.

They have donated over 1 million meals to food banks. They donate meals to organizations like Feeding America and The Global Food Banking Network. The founder, Aihui Ong, took a difficult time in her life and transformed it into a positive experience. She strived to create a health-minded snacking company that combines her love with food and her passion for change.

The Boxes

They have 3 different snack box subscription options to choose from: The Tasting box, The Deluxe box, and The Gluten Free box.

The Tasting box, priced between $7.99-9.99, comes with seven or more surprise snacks. It consists one donated meal, and free shipping to the United States and US territories.
The Deluxe box, is priced between $16.50-19.95. It comes with 15 or more surprise snacks, two donated meals, and free shipping to the United States and US territories.
The final box, for all those gluten-free folk, is priced between $19.99-24.99. It comes with 10 or more gluten-free surprise snacks, two donated meals, and free shipping to the United States and US territories.

Both the Deluxe box and Gluten-Free box are available for international shipping at the additional cost of $3.99 a month.

The Plans

You may be wondering about the price ranges. The price fluctuates depending on which plan you order. If you get the annual subscription, you get the lower price. If you get the month-to-month subscription you pay the higher price.

If you feel like you want to try Love with Food for a few months while not paying the full month-to-month cost, they have three and six-month subscription bundles as well! All the plans are free to cancel at any time, and automatically renew the first of the month. The 3-month, 6-month, and annual plans can be purchased as gifts for the adventurous snack lover in your life.

The March Deluxe Box – Spring

Unlike most people who ordered this box before March, I received this box at the end of March. I had originally signed up to get the month-to-month April box, and they offered me a deal at the end of my purchase.

After I checked out with my April box, they gave me the opportunity to purchase the March box for the discounted rate of $16.96 with free shipping.

What sealed the deal for me, was the swiftness in which this box would arrive. Now instead of having to wait until April, I could get a box of snacks within the next two weeks.

I’m glad they provided two of some snacks, as this let me get a feel for the different varieties that the brand offers.

For example, the Jamba Organic Fruit Bites came in two flavors, allowing me to try two different experiences of the same snack. The same happened with the Laiki rice crackers, as they sent both the black rice and red rice varieties.

The one thing to note with this box is the ratio of salty to sweet snacks. Three of the fifteen snacks are salty/savory, the rest of them are all sweet. This means that 4/5, or 80% of this box consisted of sweet snacks. I personally like savory more than sweet, so I think that the distribution was a bit sweet heavy for this box.

Individual Snack Review

PopchipsNutter Puffs

Size: 1 ounce = 28 grams.

Calories: 130 per 1 ounce (one bag)

Taste: Slightly sweet peanut butter.

Texture: Corn puff in texture, much like puffed cheese snacks. The outside is soft and creamy,while the inside is crunchy and airy.

Highlights: Five grams of protein per serving. Non-GMO. Gluten-free. Vegan. Only three ingredients.

Review: If you were to imagine a peanut butter Cheeto, you would not be far off from this snack. Personally, I was a bit worried as I am not a huge fan of peanut butter, but this snack surprised me. The peanut butter taste is not overpowering, but gentle and delightful. I think the texture of the snack compliments the taste, making the overall experience of this product a pleasant one.

Prince of Peace 100% Natural Ginger Chew with Mango

Size: 3 ounces = 85-gram bag of 21 individually wrapped chews

Calories: 15 per serving (one candy)

Taste: Sweet but intense. Powerful, borderline spicy ginger taste with a faint hint of mango.

Texture: Chewy and tough. Taking a bite of the chew is difficult as it is stretchy and unyielding. Can savor by letting it sit in the mouth or can eat quickly by chewing.

Highlights:Low calorie. Only four ingredients. Gluten-free.

Review: Like the Nutter Puffs, I was intimidated by this snack. I like ginger, but I don’t love it, so I figured this snack wouldn’t blow my socks off. I was right, the ginger flavor is very intense and overwhelms the tongue while coating the mouth.

One whole piece was almost too much for me because of the intensity of the ginger. The mango seeps through at times and adds another layer of sweetness. The chewy texture is fun and reminds me of taffy. To me, this product is more of a candy than a snack. Not a bad experience, but not one I would regularly seek out.

Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle in Salted Caramel flavor

Size: 1 ounce = 28 grams

Calories: 130 per 1 ounce serving (one bag)

Taste: Sweet, chocolate, and rich with hints of the savory saltiness of the caramel peeking through.

Texture: Crunchy and slightly soft. They give beneath the teeth, then crunch like a cookie.

Highlights: Low calorie. No high fructose corn syrup.

Review: I am a die-hard chocolate lover. These are delicious! I was expecting them to be hard and crumbly, but they surprised me with a chewy-before-crunchy texture. The unique texture and rich flavor make these a favorite from this box. Excellent snacking experience for chocolate fans!

AngelMints

Size: about 1½ inch long

Calories: 36 per serving (one mint)

Taste: Light, fresh, and sweet. Not an overpowering peppermint like hard mint candies.

Texture: Starts off hard and a bit chalky.As soon as it touches saliva it begins to crumble and become soft. It eventually melts in your mouth.

Highlights: Natural. Fat-free. Gluten-free. Soy free. Salt-free.

Review: I’ve always been a sucker for puffy mints. I love the texture, the sweet and refreshing flavor, and the addicting way it dissolves in your mouth. These little mints are great if you have a sweet tooth and need a quick fix. They also go well after a heavy meal, or with a cup of unsweetened tea.

Laiki Rice Crackers (Red and Black)

Size: 0.74 ounce = 21 grams

Calories 100 per 0.74 ounce serving (one bag)

Red Taste: Salty and savory. Mild rice taste. Very basic taste. A bit oily.

Black Taste: Same as red rice variety but has a stronger and slightly bitter rice taste.

Texture: Crunchy and airy. Not as dense or crumbly as other rice snacks.

Highlights: Low calorie. Kosher. Vegan. Only three ingredients.

Review: I have dabbled in various rice snacks in the past, and I must admit, I really enjoy them. Most people tend to not like rice-based snacks as they are “too bland” or “boring”, but I disagree, especially with this snack. This snack surprised me, taking me out of the expectations of what a rice snack can do. It is airy, crunchy but not too crunchy, slightly oily, and salty. Even though there are not a lot of flavors happening all at once with this snack, it is still enjoyable and delicious.

Jamba Organic Fruit Bites

Size: 0.63 ounce = 18 grams

Calories: 60 per serving (one package)

Strawberry Taste: Richly fruity and sweet, with a very slight tang. Real strawberry taste.

Blueberry and Acai Taste: Similar taste to the strawberry, but with blueberry and acai flavors.

Texture: Dense, chewy, sticky.

Highlights: USDA Organic. Rich in antioxidants. No high fructose corn syrup. Non-GMO. Fat-free. Vegan. High vitamin content. Made in a peanut-free facility.

Review: I really enjoyed these fruit snacks. If you have ever had fruit jerky or similar all-natural fruit snacks, these are much the same. They have the same dense, thick texture, and a rich real fruit taste. These would be a great replacement for traditional fruit snacks.

Laughing Giraffe Organic Lemon Snakaroons

Size: 0.50 ounce = 13 grams

Calories: 70 per serving (one snakaroon)

Taste: Lightly sweetened lemon at first, coconut comes in after the initial taste. The flavors mix well. A pleasant, subtle sweetness throughout.

Texture: Crumbly and a little chewy.

Highlights: USDA Organic. Gluten-free. Raw-vegan. Non-GMO.

Review: You must like coconut to like this snack. This snack is essentially a small, sweetened, ball of coconut fakes with a touch of lemon flavor added. Really tasty and quick if you are looking for a one or two bite snack. The only issue I have is that there is only one per package, I wish there were two!

Jolly Oak Super Grain Oat Crunchers in nutz 4 s’mores flavor

Size: 1.05 ounce = 30 grams

Calories:130 per serving (one package)

Taste: Chocolatey, subtly sweet, and nutty.

Texture: Crunchy, but in a diverse way. Lots of different sized pieces that have different ranges of crunchy.

Highlights: No hydrogenated oils. No high fructose corn syrup. Gelatin free. Non-GMO.

Review: I am not the biggest fan of granola, but I did enjoy this snack. It was what you would expect from granola: varied texture, sweet taste, many different components. With that said, it didn’t wow me either. Out of the whole snack box, I think this snack was the most underwhelming. To me, granola is one of the staples of “healthy snacking” and can be presented too much.

Country Archer Jerky Co. Turkey Stick with Rosemary

Size: 1 ounce = 28 grams

Calories: 70 per serving (one stick)

Taste: Savory, flavorful, and delightfully seasoned. The turkey flavor is prominent and complimented by the rosemary.

Texture: Chewy and juicy.

Highlights: Gluten-free. Paleo. Made from hormone and antibiotic-free turkeys.

Review: This turkey stick smells fantastic! It reminds me of a home cooked turkey dinner with all the fixings. The casing is thicker than most stick type snacks which is weird at first, but it comes around. I love this snack. As one of the rare savory snacks in this box, it was delightful to have something break up the sweetness.

The Nitty Gritty – Price, Shipping, and Packaging

I got this box at the discounted price of $16.96 when checking out with my April box. It was only $0.46 more than the $16.50 cost per box for their annual subscription plan. With the 15 snacks included in this box, at the price of $16.96, each snack cost about $1.30. Considering the size of some of the snacks in the box, as well as the high quality of them, I can happily say that this box was a pretty good deal!

This box shipped very quickly. The order estimated that this box would arrive between three and fourteen days after I placed the order. It shipped four days after I placed my order and took six days to arrive. Not bad for free shipping!

The box itself is very lovely. It is a striking red with the Love with Food logo in white font. The whole box was shrink-wrapped, which was nice. An extra layer of protection never hurts. As the packaging of the box openly displays what it is, a snack box, I was very pleased with the delivery service that they used. The delivery person made sure to put this box in the mail room rather than in front of my door.

I live in an apartment, and I know that if this box was left outside of my door, I may not find it when I get home, especially given the obvious packaging.

When you sign up you be one a member of the Love with Food community. Each purchase you make, whether it is a subscription box or a store purchase, add points to your account. They also offer surveys to earn points. When you have accumulated enough points, you can redeem them for free products in their Rewards Pantry, you just pay shipping!

The most exciting this about the rewards pantry is that they have past boxes available! So, if you missed out on a month and are just dying to have that box, you can! They also feature many individual snacks that have been in past boxes. If you have a favorite snack, you can snag it for free (plus the cost of shipping)! One downside is that the previous month’s boxes are the quickest to go, so you can’t always get what you want.

Deals and Offers

Love with Food is a very enthusiastic company when it comes to deals. You can refer friends to earn a free snack box and $10, 1000-point, credit! After your friend signs up, you can reap the benefits. You can refer more than one friend too!

If you sign up for their newsletter, you have a chance to win a three-month subscription plan! You also get various deals sent to your inbox. Quite often they also do sales promotions. These promotions are seasonal and usually involve a discount off a longer subscription plan. In my case, I got offered this box after checking out with my April box. They may provide this offer with all their boxes, so if you’ve missed a box, you can get the previous months after ordering the upcoming months.

Love with Food Store

One great thing about this company is that they have a store where you can buy bulk packages of your favorite snacks. For me, this is a personal favorite!

They also have previous boxes for sale, so if you missed a month you can pick it up at their store.

The store itself has a huge selection, 212 pages to be exact, of bulk snacks, drinks, supplements, and aromatherapy products. Even though they have a large selection, they also do not take down the products that are sold out, so sometimes you must wade through these to find what you are looking for.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed my Spring themed deluxe March box from Love with Food. All the snacks came in reasonable grab and go sizes, which means less prep work for me! Though this box was heavy on the sweets, I still really enjoyed most of the snacks. There were a variety of flavors and textures which kept me interested and excited to try the next snack.

By far, my favorite part of this company and this box is the lack of granola and nuts. They broke away from the easy route of healthy snacking and really delivered. If you are someone who hates scouring the grocery store in search of new, healthy snacks, are tired of granola, and have an adventurous streak, then Love with Food is a great subscription box choice for you!

Love with Food Update – Redeeming Points for a February Tasting Box

I ended up cashing the reward points I saved up to receive another Love with Food box. All the points I earned were through my March and April box purchases, as well as the reviews I left for the April Box.

When I ordered my reward, I was still signed up to receive a Deluxe box every month and this puts my membership status at “super snacker VIP.”

The higher your member status, the cheaper your shipping rate. I ended up only paying $4.99 for shipping, which is half the of the $9.99 price for the month-to-month tasting box.

Getting this box half off was a deal I could not refuse. I did notice, however, was that after I canceled my month-to-month plan, my membership status changed to “lite snacker” and the shipping for the Rewards Pantry went up to $8.99.

If you have enough points saved up to trade in, I would recommend cashing them in before you cancel your membership. With the $4.99 I paid for shipping, the cost per snack broke down to $0.71 per snack.

February’s theme was “Indulge.” This box came with 7 snacks.

I enjoyed this selection because it provided a very balanced split between sweet and salty snacks.Out of the snacks, three were salty/savory and the other four were sweet.
