Stitch Fix vs Dia & Co : Unboxing Videos Included

Whenever I turn on my TV or watch a YouTube ad, it always seems that I’m watching an advertisement for either Stitch Fix or Dia and Co. After watching so many commercials, I’ve finally decided to hop on the wagon of trying both styling service subscription companies to see if one subscription fit a certain group of people better than the other.

Bottom Line Up Front: This is a LONG article, basically compiled 3 separate months worth of reviews. To save you some time, here’s my high level. I found Stitch Fixto consistently provide better VALUE here, winning 2-1 (in my experience). However, Dia & Co had some GREAT finds that sometimes blew Stitch Fix out for the water.

I Prefer StitchFix Personally

It's pretty simple. StitchFix has an AMAZING styling system that quite literally leads the market. Couple that with an amazing selection of brands and StitchFix truly makes it easy to look good without really trying! Keep Everything in Your Fix & Get 25% Off!

So What?

Continuing on…

This is my first time ever trying Stitch Fix, but I have tried three Dia and Co boxes in the past. However, I’ve lost weight and now have a smaller figure than when I first tried out Dia and Co (and I created a new account), so it’s almost like I’m trying the subscription again for the first time.

While Stitch Fix does cater to men, straight size women, plus size women and kids, Dia and Co only offers subscriptions for plus size women’s fashion, big and tall, and plus size women’s active wear. When you first sign up, both companies require you to fill out a personal style profile that you have to fill out in order to get your first box.

The questions asked inside of each style profile include your sizing, what types of tops and bottoms you like, what types of clothing you absolutely want to avoid, what colors and patterns you like, what colors and patterns you want to avoid, what parts of your body you want to accentuate, what parts of your body you’re looking to cover, what you’re looking to spend per each piece of clothing, and how often you’d like to receive a box.

Both Stitch Fix and Dia and Co boxes cost $20 each, but that $20 is technically a styling fee. In addition, both companies offer free shipping to your address and provide subscribers with a prepaid shipping label and bag to send everything back in. If you decide to keep everything inside of your box, both companies offer you a 25% discount on the total cost of the box.

In addition, both companies will use the $20 that you spend on a styling fee as a credit towards anything that you purchase. For example, if you want to purchase a shirt in your box that costs $40, the $20 that you spent for the styling service fee will be credited towards the $40 shirt.

Now that we’ve gone over all of the similarities between Stitch Fix and Dia and Co, let’s see what each box has to offer!

How much is it? $20 a box

Total value of my October Stitch Fix: $248

What I got in my October Stitch Fix:

  • Vigoss Darby Distressed Skinny Jeans- $68
  • August Mist Kalani Lace Knit Bodysuit- $30
  • PINK CLOVER Melborne Duster Cardigan- $44
  • French Grey Jancis Criss Cross Neckline Blouse- $38
  • Skies are Blue Medea Cut Out Sleeve Cotton Sweater- $68

The total value of everything inside of my October Stitch Fix is $248, but if I decided to keep everything inside of my box (spoiler alert: I did), the 25% discount saved me $62, meaning that I only spent $186 for everything inside of my box!

For size referencing, I am 5 foot 8 inches, I wear a size 18 bottoms, a 2X in tops.

This is my very first Stitch Fix box ever! With Stitch Fix, you have three days to try everything on and send anything that you want back in the mail. For all of the items that you do want to keep, you have to log into your Stitch Fix account to purchase. When going through online and purchasing the items that you don’t want to keep, you also go through and mark all of the items that you’re returning. Stitch Fix will ask you to rate everything that you’re returning by asking such as:

  • How was the fit?
  • Was this piece in your budget?
  • Any feedback on this piece?

One thing that I don’t like about Stitch Fix is that your $20 credit doesn’t roll over if you decide that you aren’t going to purchase anything for the month. So, in order to use the $20 ‘styling fee’ as a credit towards anything that you do want to keep, you have to purchase something in that month’s box.

Stitch Fix is an incredibly size inclusive brand, offering boxes for petite clothing, maternity clothing, kids clothing, men’s clothing, and plus size clothing! For their plus size subscription, Stitch Fix offers sizing up to a 24W and 3X. I know that a 3X isn’t the most inclusive sizing for plus size women, but hopefully that’ll be something that they work on soon.

I also discovered that you can request to have the same stylist style your box; I love all of the pieces that Jamie (my stylist) picked out for me in this box, so I think I may request to have Jamie again in a later box.

You can also add in extras in your Stitch Fix boxes, including items like tights, camis, socks, shapewear, jewelry, specialized clothing accessories. I’ve never seen this with any other fashion subscription, so I thought that was a unique twist to this subscription.

I loved everything that I got in my October Stitch Fix box so much that I kept everything, so I decided to do a photoshoot for my Instagram with all of the pieces. My shoes, purse, and jewelry did NOT come in my Stitch Fix box and were separate pieces that I purchased by myself.

First piece: Skies are Blue Medea Cut Out Sleeve Cotton Sweater

  • Color: Dark Purple
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $68

Now I do have to admit, when I initially got my Stitch Fix box and pulled everything out, I thought that my stylist had totally missed the mark. Before I tried all of the clothing on, I was actually really, really disappointed. But after trying everything on, it literally felt like my stylist knew exactly what would look good on my body, what colors paired well with my skin tone; it was like my stylist was someone who actually knew me and knew what would look good on me!

The first thing that I pulled out of my October Stitch Fix box was this Skies are Blue Medea Cut Out Sleeve Cotton Sweater in dark purple. I don’t ever wear sweaters because I find that they are always too short, are completely shapeless, and tend to make me look bigger than I actually am. Finding plus size sweaters that actually fit my torso is very difficult and I would never spend more than $40 on a top.

In all honesty, this sweater is my least favorite piece in the entire box. I do really love the color and I think that the cut-out sleeves really break up the shapelessness that most sweaters have. The fit is absolutely perfect, the sleeves are long enough, and the actual top itself is exactly where I want all of my tops to lay on my body.

This isn’t a thin sweater, but I also wouldn’t say that I would feel comfortable wearing this sweater on the coldest of winter days. It made me so happy that this sweater wasn’t see through, which is a problem that I often struggle with in the chest area of most tops. I do have to say that this sweater hasn’t pilled after I’ve washed it a few times, which is also a problem that I commonly run into with the sweatshirts that I purchase.

I never would have paid $68 for a sweater if I was shopping for myself and in all honesty, I only kept this sweater because I wanted the 25% off discount that I got for keeping all items, because I’m obsessed with everything else that I got in this box. My favorite thing about this sweater is the color, it’s something that totally out of the color range that I typically pick for myself!

Second piece: Vigoss Darby Distressed Skinny Jeans

  • Color: Indigo
  • Size: 18W
  • Price: $68

Going into a store to purchase jeans for myself isn’t a thing I’ve done since I was a freshman in high school. Forever 21 is the only store I was ever heard of offering plus size clothing, but the Forever 21 in the mall that I went to didn’t offer any plus size clothing. There weren’t any other stores in my area that offered any sort of plus size clothing, so I had to result to ordering clothes online.

The only problem that I usually have with ordering jeans online is that a good portion of the time, brands don’t list the inseam length of the jeans on the listing, so I’m usually just taking a wild guess. I wear a 28” inseam, but most of the plus size jeans that I did (and still do) end up buying have an inseam length of 30”-31” and that extra jean length just ends up collecting at my ankles. Personally, I really don’t feel confident wearing jeans that have extra fabric collecting around my ankles, as it makes me feel sloppy and unkempt.

I also have a lot of problems with jeans not fitting my body properly; I have thick thighs, so I usually run into a lot of jeans that don’t fit my thighs properly or the jeans fit my thighs fine, but are too big in the waist. I usually end up returning a lot of jeans for this problem, but in the more recent development of plus size fashion, this is a problem that I’ve started to run into less often.

When filling out my styling profile for Stitch fix, I made a little note about this problem that I often run into and asked that if I did receive any jeans, that I get jeans that hit right around my ankle.

I wouldn’t really classify this jeans as jeans, but more as capris because of where they hit on my calf. But I absolutely love how sassy these jeans are! I love the light distressing on the pant legs, as well as on the hem of the pant legs. The grommet detail on the side of pant legs!

But what I’m most impressed about is that these jeans actually fit me! I mean, they actually fit me everywhere! This is a huge deal for me, especially because they’re real jeans and not jeggings. The waist fits snug enough that the jeans aren’t falling down off of my waist and they aren’t squeezing me too tightly to give me a muffin top. The thighs are extremely comfortable and I have plenty of room for movement for squatting and bending, without feeling like I’m going to rip my jeans.

I normally spend $30 or less on a pair of jeans, so the $68 that these jeans cost is a bit out of the price range that I normally shop for. I also really love the color of these jeans, which is just another added bonus. But the fit and feel of these jeans completely won me over and I have to say that I’m absolutely shocked that a random stranger was able to find me a pair of perfectly fitting jeans on their first shot after I’ve struggled to find perfectly fitting jeans after so many years of shopping.

Third piece: French Grey Jancis Criss Cross Neckline Blouse

  • Color: Burnt Orange
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $38

After I pulled out this French Grey Jancis Criss Cross Neckline Blouse, I really thought that this is where the quality of my Stitch Fix box was going to start going downhill. I have never had any success with these types of tops fitting my bust, which is the area that I struggle with the most when shopping for tops. I have a larger bust, so tops either fit too tightly across my chest, are too short, or are completely see through because of the fabric being stretched out across my bust. I don’t like sizing up in tops to accommodate the size of my chest, because shirts just end up hanging too loosely and baggy on my body, which isn’t a look that I feel compliments my body very well.

But, look at this top! It fits my bust, is long enough, is a gorgeous burnt orange color (making it perfect for fall), and it has super cute sleeves! There are so many things that I love about this top and because of all of the bad experiences that I’ve had with this type of fabric, I never would have picked out this shirt form myself.

I asked my stylist to get me out of my comfort zone with colors; I normally dress in black tops and that’s about it. I don’t really play with color a whole lot, but I love trying all sorts of patterns, prints, textures, cuts, and styles. I want to try to incorporate more colors into my wardrobe, but I never can seem to find companies that offer plus size clothing in bright, fun colors. This burnt orange color is the perfect shade for fall and because this top isn’t anything too bold, you could pair this with so many different types of outfits!

I’m such a sucker for sleeves and I love how simple, yet super cute the sleeves on this top are! This top has that perfect lose and comfy fit to it, without looking baggy or sloppy! Not to mention that the length of this top is perfect (2/2 Stitch Fix, way to go). I love the criss crossing on the chest, as it gives this shirt just a little bit of a modern twist.

This was a top that I didn’t know that I needed in my life, but I’m constantly reaching for this top to layer with basic fall outfits; brown moto jackets, black leather jackets, cardigans, jean jackets, and even by itself it’s so cute!

Fourth piece: Pink Clover Melborne Duster Cardigan

  • Color: Olive
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $44

Cardigans are another thing that I’ve never really had success with, mainly just because they just ending up being too short on my torso. Cardigans aren’t pieces that I ever really think about wearing too much, mainly because I favor bomber jackets and jean jackets. This olive cardigan is so incredibly soft, has the perfect sleeve length, and is long enough to hit where I want all cardigans to fit on me!

I have never in my life ever owned an olive cardigan, but I always keep an eye out for one whenever I do go shopping. What caught me most off guard about this cardigan is how soft it feels! This cardigan does have some nice stretch to it, but it doesn’t have any pockets on it (which isn’t that big of a deal). Paired with the lace bodysuit that I also got in my October Stitch Fix and I have been given a super comfy, Pinterest worthy outfit!

The sleeves are ribbed, but are just as soft and smooth as the rest of the cardigan. If I had seen this piece in a store and had the opportunity to touch it and feel how comfy the fabric is, I would have gladly paid $44 for it! This is a basic piece that (in my opinion) is an absolute staple for a minimal wardrobe and can easily be worn through every season!

Fifth piece: August Mist Kalani Lace Knit Bodysuit

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $30

This was the last piece that I had pulled out of my October Stitch Fix box and even though the rest of the box had gone extremely well for me, I was a bit nervous about how sheer this bodysuit looked. When I pulled this bodysuit out of the Stitch Fix box, I very easily could see through the entire thing. I tried this bodysuit on and was absolutely shocked to see that I couldn’t see through the bodysuit- you couldn’t even tell what color bra I was wearing!

This bodysuit has a snap button closure in the crotch area, but you don’t need to unsnap/snap it to put this bodysuit on! I was able to just slide the entire suit on and was ready to go! It was so easy to move around in, because it wasn’t too tightly fitted. Now this bodysuit wasn’t loose in the sense that it was too big for me, but the fabric that was used to create this bodysuit had a ton of stretch to it! The straps didn’t fall down, the bodysuit didn’t ride up in the back, I didn’t have any problems with any sort of wedgies, and my bra wasn’t hanging out in the back because the back of this bodysuit actually came up high enough to cover my back (which is what I asked for in my style profile)!

While the color of this bodysuit is perfectly in my comfort zone, I love how this bodysuit compliments the parts of my figure that I love! Plus, it’s another basic piece that I can build with and wear it underneath of cardigans, jean jackets, under dresses for extra warmth, with skirts, leggings, leather jackets, or even just with a pair of jeans and nothing else!

I can dress up this bodysuit with some glam accessories or dress it down and keep it more casual. The lace pattern is something cute and fun, but I’m still so shocked at how this bodysuit isn’t see through (especially because it isn’t lined). This is another piece in this box that if I had seen in a store, I would have totally gone out of my way to purchase. I also think that $30 for this bodysuit is very reasonable, especially because I don’t have to worry about wearing a black or nude bra underneath. The August Mist Kalani Lace Knit Bodysuit is absolutely the best piece in this box, but I think that everything inside of this box was so incredible!

Final thoughts of the October Stitch Fix

I was so impressed because everything inside of this box fit (after a bad run I had with Nadine West, I almost lost all faith in styling subscription boxes) and was totally wearable! I love how everything inside of this box was something that was casual (or I could dress up at a later date) and were pieces that I would feel comfortable wearing on the street. I don’t work at an office, so I’m not ever really looking for office wear and I’m so glad that Stitch Fix gave me pieces that weren’t office wear!

Everything in my October Stitch Fix made me feel so confident and excited to try new styles and colors. I’m so impressed with how well my stylist dressed me, but I do think that submitting my Instagram for my stylist to look at my have helped them style me better.

I don’t know if it’s even possible to top this box, but let’s see if my October Dia and Co box can beat my October Stitch Fix!

How much is it? $20 a box
Total value of my October Dia and Co: $333

What I got in my October Dia and Co:

  • Leota Annalisa Cold Shoulder Tunic- $49
  • City Chic Lyra Dress- $89
  • Dex Plus McKenna Criss Cross Cutout Back Cardigan- $72
  • Molly and Isadora Tessa sleeveless Lace Up Back Tank- $45
  • RWN by Rawan Augustina Destructed Ankle Skinny Jean with Frayed Hem- $78

As I was filling out the style profile for my Dia and Co box (which I did minutes after I filled out my style profile for Stitch Fix), I noticed that the Dia and Co style profile took me a lot less time to fill out because it wasn’t as detailed as the Stitch Fix styling profile was. Dia and Co did ask some of the same questions, such as:

  • What patterns do you want to avoid?
  • What colors do you want to wear?
  • What are the colors that you don’t like to wear?
  • What’s your budget for a piece of clothing?

Dia and Co didn’t get as personal as Stitch Fix did, which is a good thing if you are someone who isn’t interested in sharing a lot of personal information with a company/complete stranger. Stitch Fix asks for your height, weight, shoe size, bra size, shirt size, dress size, pant size, jean size, skirt size, and how you personally characterize your proportions, going through a list of your arms, shoulders, torso, hips, and legs. There are a couple more pages of questions after those first initial questions, but I think you probably understand that they ask a lot of personal questions.

On the other hand, Dia and Co only asks for your body type, your height, your top size, your bottom size, your dress size, your bra band size, your bra cup size, what parts of your body you want to show off, what parts of your body you want to keep covered, where you like to shop, what colors you want to avoid, what patterns you like/don’t like. Just comparing the two style profiles, I feel that the style profile for Stitch Fix got way more personal than the style profile for Dia and Co.

I understand how this may make some people uncomfortable, which may be a swaying decision towards Dia and Co if you were sitting on the fence between the two boxes. Me personally, I would rather give a company all of my measurements and preferences so they can nail every box that they send out to me rather than just have a company ask from general questions and send me pieces that are more of a general fit for a group of people, instead of being for me personally.

Dia and Co only offers a subscription box for plus size women (a fashion subscription and an active wear subscription), catering to sizes 14-32 or a 0X-5X.

Dia and Co also doesn’t roll over the $20 credit if you decide that you aren’t going to purchase anything for the month. Just in the same situation at Stitch Fix, you have to use the $20 ‘styling fee’ as a credit towards anything that you do want to keep in that month’s box or you’ll lose the $20 you spent. Dia and Co also offers free unlimited size exchanges, which I thought was a really nice bonus.

One thing that I like about Dia and Co more than I like with Stitch Fix is that with Dia, you get five days to try everything on and send it back. That gives you a little bit of time to contemplate about a piece that you may be on the fence about. With Stitch Fix, I do feel really rushed to get it back out the door and on its way back, because I don’t want to be charged the full amount of the box (if I don’t keep everything) just because the mail was a little slow to deliver it.

With Dia and Co, you have five days in total, which I feel like gives everyone a little bit of breathing room. This means that if you’re someone who travels a lot, just gets really busy and don’t have a lot of time for yourself, or you’re indecisive about a couple of pieces in your box, you have two more days to contemplate than what you have with Stitch Fix.

Now, I have signed up for Dia and Co before, but I canceled the subscription three months into it in 2017 because I wasn’t really into the pieces that I was being sent out. But since the last time that I got a Dia and Co box (the beginning of 2017), I’ve lost weight, I’ve changed up my style, and I even created a new profile so it’s basically like I’m getting my Dia and Co for the first time!

I have to say that I’m very disappointed in this box (we’ll talk about why in a little bit), but I didn’t keep any of the pieces in my October Dia and Co. That means that there was no IG photoshoot, which is why you will see such a huge difference in the photos taken for my Dia and Co box.

First piece: City Chic Lyra Dress

  • Color: Black and Pink
  • Size: Medium
  • Price: $89

The first piece that I pulled out of my October Dia and Co box was the City Chic Lyra Dress. When I looked over the sheet that came with this box, I was alarmed to see that Dia and Co had sent me a dress in a size ‘M’ (medium), as I’ve never seen any companies label plus size clothing with straight sizing. So while this dress is labeled ‘M’, it fits like an 18!

This dress is absolutely the best part of this Dia and Co box, but even with it being the best part of this box, there were some things about this dress that I wasn’t in love with. If this had been in a box that I had gotten in the spring or summer, I would’ve thought about keeping it. I do love the pattern and the way this dress hugs my curves, but I don’t know if this dress will be too big on me in the warmer months of the next year.

I love the pattern of this dress, it’s so cute! The mauves and soft pinks that create the flowers of this dress are gorgeous and lean towards very feminine, rather than floral printed curtains. The belt on this dress was adjustable and it wasn’t sewn into the dress, so I could take it off if I wanted to. I think that the dress really compliments my waist, so I totally love the belt.

This dress zips up the back, but the zipper was very hard to move. This dress was a little loose on me, so it wasn’t hard to zip up because the dress was tight. I also decided not to keep this dress because a lot of stitching around the zipper had been torn (before I even put the dress on), so I had decided to keep the dress, I would’ve had to have done a good amount of repairs. I’m not personally interested in paying full-price for an item that I’m going to have to fix and I think that $89 for this dress was outrageously expensive.

I do think that the pattern is cute, I like the length of the dress, and I like how my body looks in this dress, but the dress wasn’t in perfect condition, was very expensive, and isn’t really in season for me to full comfortable keeping this dress.

Second piece: Molly and Isadora Tessa Sleeveless Lace Up Back Tank

  • Color: White and pink
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $45

The second piece that I pulled out of my Dia and Co box was this Molly and Isadora Tessa Sleeveless Lace Up Back Tank with pink and white stripes. Seeing this striped tank top in my box definitely made me feel like Dia and Co didn’t look at my style profile at all, because I marked that I don’t ever want to wear stripes (I even left a little note to express my strong dislike for stripes).

I do like the length of this tank top and I like the color pink that was featured on this top, but I don’t really think that this tank top fits any one of my sense of style at all. I don’t like the stripes and while I think the lace up back is unique and interesting, it’s not really something that I really feel like speaks to me.

I don’t feel like this tank top is worth the $45 price tag that comes with it, especially because I’ve seen similar tank tops at Walmart and Target. However, I do like that you have the option to dress up or dress down this tank top, because it’s not a very intricate piece.

Third piece: Leota Annalise Cold Shoulder Tunic

  • Color: Pink, white, teal, and magenta
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $49

I love the bright colors featured on this top! It’s very fun, bright, and bold, which are all of the things that I’m looking for in new pieces that I’m picking for my wardrobe. I love the length of this shirt, it falls just below my hips, and the sleeves fit proportionally to the length of the shirt.

This top did a lot of stretch to it, which was nice to have in the bust area, because it did feel a little tight across my chest. If this had been a more restrictive material, I don’t think I would’ve been able to move my arms around very much in this top. But since the material was stretchy and forgiving, I was able to move around without having to worry about tearing the shirt.

I also enjoyed that even though the base of this shirt was white, it wasn’t see through! The biggest complaint that I have about this shirt is it feels to me like it’s better for office wear than it would be a trip to the grocery store. I don’t think that $49 for this top is unreasonably expensive (for office wear), but I do really love the color scheme of this top!

Fourth piece: Dex Plus McKenna Criss Cross Cutout Back Cardigan

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $72

This cardigan… this cardigan was a mess. I thought that the tearing in the stitching on the back zipper in the dress that I pulled out was going to be the most I was going to have to worry about with this box. The Dex Plus McKenna Criss Cross Cutout Back Cardigan had several pulls and a lot of pilling when I pulled it out of my box. I also got a bunch of black fuzz everywhere, which wasn’t a whole lot of fun to clean off the white shirt that I wore underneath (I didn’t want to get charged for ‘damaging’ the white shirt, since it had all of the black fuzz on it).

This cardigan isn’t worth more than $15, so seeing that it was priced at $72 made me kind of angry, especially because the cardigan was in such poor condition. I mean it was totally still wearable, but it looked like I had been worn a few times before I got it.

Not to mention that the cardigan itself fit more like a 3X/4X than it did a 2X, so much so that it kept sliding off of my shoulders while I was trying to wear it because it was just so big. I ended up having to squeeze my arms to my sides tightly to get it to stay on just for long enough that I could take this photo.

I have to say that I was willing to keep an open mind throughout the rest of my box, but seeing this cardigan in my box after it should’ve been pulled because of the condition that it was in made me feel frustrated. I would understand having a piece here or there having some flaws to it, but the dress and the cardigan that I got both have damage to them.

Fifth piece: RWN by Rawan Augustina Destructed Ankle Skinny Jean with Frayed Hem

  • Color: Dark wash
  • Size: 18
  • Price: $78

The last thing that I pulled out of my October Dia and Co box was this RWN by Rawan Augustina Destructed Ankle Skinny Jean with Frayed Hem. These jeans are super cute and I love the distressing on these jeans! I put the same note in my Dia and Co profile that I left in my Stitch Fix profile about wanting to find the pair of jeans that had the perfect length to them. Length wise, I think these jeans are absolutely perfect!

They were a little loose in the waist section of the jeans, so I would’ve had to wear a belt to keep them up where they are comfortable. But since I decided that I am sending everything else back in the box, I wasn’t interested in keeping these $78 jeans and having to pay full price for them.

Final thoughts on my October Dia and Co box

This box reminded me why I originally stopped subscribing to Dia and Co back in 2017. I was very disappointed in the quality of the clothes that I got, the pricing of the clothes (everything was really overpriced), and how I don’t feel like anybody at Dia and Co really took a look at my style profile.

I feel like everything that I got inside of my Dia and Co box were pieces that I thought would fit best for office wear, but not really the casual, every day type of clothing that I’m looking to wear, especially so because I don’t work in an office. I also don’t really feel like a lot of these pieces were in season, but more like my box was a mix of spring and summer clothes. I’m really, really, really disappointed in this Dia and Co box. However, I’m going to stay faithful to reviewing everything that I got in my box, so hopefully they will learn my sense of style better after I start reviewing their picks!

Stitch Fix vs Dia and Co

While I know that Stitch Fix didn’t have as high of a value as Dia and Co did, I absolutely loved everything inside of my Stitch Fix box! Everything inside of my Stitch Fix box fit me perfectly, complimented my body well, and was in a reasonable price range! I actually feel like my stylist from Stitch Fix looked at my profile and personally made my box for me, while as with my Dia and Co box, I don’t feel like my stylist from Dia looked at my box at all. I felt like the box that I got from Dia and Co was a generic box that they sent out to a group of people that maybe all had similar points of interest on their profiles, but I don’t really feel like my Dia and Co box was customized for me.

In my eyes, the October Stitch Fix box absolutely blew my October Dia and Co box out of the water. Stitch Fix is the winner of this battle of the boxes!

Which team are you on- Team Stitch Fix or Team Dia and Co?

November Stitch Fix vs Dia and Co

November Stitch Fix vs Dia and Co

Plus size fashion subscription boxes are quickly taking over the fashion subscription box community, but I’ve recently seen a lot of plus size fashion subscription box companies come in with a hot fire and quickly sizzle out. The main problem that I’ve seen with a lot of plus size subscription companies is that these companies aren’t inclusive with the sizing that they offer and only cater to a small selection of body types in the plus size community. Stitch Fix and Dia and Co are two of the largest companies that offer plus size fashion subscription boxes, both companies costing subscribers $20 a month, include five personalized items in each box, offer free shipping both ways, have a style profile all new subscribers need to fill out, and give subscribers the option to review all of the items that were picked out for each box they receive.

In addition, Stitch Fix and Dia and Co both offer subscribers a 25% discount if you decide to keep all of the items that were picked for one month’s box. Both subscription boxes are priced at $20 as a styling fee, but both companies use the $20 styling credit that you spend to get your box to be credited towards any item that you decide to keep. To break all of that down to make it easier to understand, let’s say that Stitch Fix or Dia and Co sends out a box with a total of $283. If you decide to keep all of the pieces that you received in your box, you will get a 25% off discount off of the entire cost of the box (the $283), which would mean that you’re getting $70.75 off of your total. In addition, you will also have your $20styling fee taken off of your total, bringing your total of all of the items you want to keep in your box to $192.25.

But, if you decide that you want to only keep one item inside of your box, you won’t get the 25% discount, but you will still be able to use the $20 styling fee to reduce from your total. If you want to keep a $30 shirt, the $20 that you spent as your styling fee will bring your cost down to $10, meaning that Stitch Fix/Dia and Co will only withdraw an additional $10 off of your credit card.

In today’s comparison of the November Stitch Fix vs Dia and Co, we’re going to look at:

  • The value of each box
  • How closely the picks follow the personal profile I’ve filled out
  • The types of clothing in each box
  • The sizing accuracy of the clothing in each box
  • The variety of clothing in each box

For reference to sizing, here are my measurements:

  • Height: 5 feet 8 inches
  • Bust: 40DD
  • Waist: 40 inches
  • Hips: 48 inches

Before we get into unboxing, who do you think if going to win for the month of November?

November Stitch Fix

What is it? Monthly personalized fashion box with plus size, straight size, men’s, and kid’s sizing available

  • How much is it? $20 a month
  • The total value of my November Stitch Fix: $227

What I got in my November Stitch Fix:

  • Coffeeshop Lottie Moto Jacket- $78 (size 2X)
  • 8th Story Lachlen Lace Trim Detail Blouse- $58 (size 2X)
  • Urban Expressions Leandra Leopard Print Clutch- $38
  • Seven7 Jeans Mabel Skinny Jean with Lace Hem- $88 (size 18W)
  • Market & Spruce Jeannie Cold Shoulder Dress- $58 (size 2X)

First piece: Coffeeshop Lottie Moto Jacket

  • Color: Brown
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $78

For years I have been looking around for a brown moto jacket, but I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg just on one jacket. I have been able to find plus size brown moto jackets, but most of the jackets that I’ve found have been upwards of a $150 and I’m not interested in paying that much money for one piece of clothing. Another problem that I commonly run into is that the jackets aren’t big enough in the arm area or are too short, so it’s more like the ‘plus size’ jackets have been made with straight size bodies in mind, but aren’t truly plus size jackets.

The only place that I’ve found that has come close to finding a brown plus size moto jacket is Fashion Nova, but even with the jackets that I’ve tried with Fashion Nova, the moto jackets are baggy on my body and aren’t very slimming. I know that I’m very picky when it comes to my outwear choices, but that’s why I’m so impressed with this Coffeeshop Lottie Moto Jacket that my Stitch Fix stylist picked out for me! I have a larger bust, so finding a jacket that zips up all of the ways without having to go up a size or two is challenging, but this Coffeeshop Moto Jacket zipped all the way up!

Not only was this jacket the perfect length for my torso, but it has the perfect sleeve length, wasn’t too tight in the shoulders or arms, and had adjustable straps on the side to cinch the waist of the jacket in! I’ve never heard of the brand Coffeeshop, but I’m so impressed with the quality and fit of this brown moto jacket! The only complaint that I have is that the inside of the jacket isn’t lined, which means that the pleather sticks directly to your skin. This makes me feel like this jacket isn’t breathable, so it does get very warm in the jacket rather quickly, which is a great thing for these colder months!

For $78 I’m absolutely in love with the quality of this jacket and how incredibly well it fits my body! I don’t think that $78 is overpriced for this jacket at all, so I can guess that I decided to keep this jacket. I think that it’s a basic accessory to have in my wardrobe and can be paired with a lot of different styles, colors, and looks, so I’m ecstatic that after all of the years of looking for a brown moto jacket, my stylist was able to pick out one that is literally perfect for my body shape!

Second piece: Seven7 Jeans Mabel Skinny Jean with Lace Hem

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 18W
  • Cost: $88

I love that Stitch Fix sends out pieces in a box that can be put together to complete an outfit. The only thing that wasn’t in my Stitch Fix box that I wore with this outfit was my jewelry and my booties, but the lace hem pants were the bottoms that I received in my November Stitch Fix. Thanks to the plus size fashion industry have grown tremendously over the last couple of years, I don’t have a problem finding jeans in my size anymore. The problem that I do run into often is when I buy pants, a lot of the extra jean material bunches at my ankles, which is a look that I don’t feel confident in.

Ankle jeans are something that I’ve just discovered were a thing, so I asked my Stitch Fix stylist to send me ankle jeans in my boxes. The Mabel Skinny Jean with Lace Hem jeans is the perfect length for my legs, with the added in lace on the bottom of the jean for a sassy flair (which is what I asked my stylist for). I think that the lace bottoms are super cute, I love how comfortable these jeans are, I love the length, and I love that these jeans have a ton of stretch to them. However, I wasn’t in love with the price tag of these jeans; I know I could do a DIY version of these jeans for less than the $88 is costs to keep these jeans, so I decide to send this pair back. Pair these black lace hem jeans with the floral print tank, brown motto jacket, and cheetah print clutch my Stitch Fix stylist sent me and I’ve got a super cute date night outfit!

Third piece: 8th Story Lachlen Lace Trim Detail Blouse

  • Color: Floral pattern
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $58

I will admit that I’m kind of getting tired of getting floral pattern tops in my fashion subscription boxes, but I am happy that this isn’t a floral pattern that would match a set of curtains. I hope soon that a new pattern will storm the plus size community because floral patterns have been old news for a little while now.

This 8th Story Lachlen Lace Trim Detail Blouse is a cute pattern, but I’m not totally in love with the blouse itself. I love the blouse paired with the other pieces in my November Stitch Fix, but I don’t like it by itself, unstyled because I feel like it doesn’t compliment my figure. In the pictures that I’m wearing this blouse with an outfit, I have the blouse tucked in to break up the look and give the illusion of my figure, even though my blouse is on the looser side.

The blouse by itself hides my body and doesn’t compliment my bust, which is something that I asked for when I originally created my style profile. I also don’t really like how high cut the top of this tank top is, although I do like how thick the straps are. I don’t have a problem with loose or flowing tops, but for my personal taste, there needs to be a section of the top that is form fitting, so I don’t look (or feel) sloppy or like I’m trying to hide my body. This lace trim detail blouse isn’t very form fitting, so it feels like my body is hiding behind the fabric of the top. I like this blouse tucked in and layered with other pieces, but I don’t think that this tank top fits into my personal style if I were to leave it untucked and unstyled.

Fourth piece: Market & Spruce Jeannie Cold Shoulder Dress

  • Color: Teal green
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $58

To be brutally honest, I don’t even know what my stylist was thinking by throwing this dress in my box. I think the color is really pretty, but when I filled out my style profile, I asked for figure-hugging dresses and clothes. This dress is basically the opposite of what I asked for and it’s something that I would pick out for myself and it’s something that I would never wear. This dress hides my figure, is shapeless, and doesn’t fit within the style profile that I submitted to Stitch Fix.

On a positive note, I do like the cold shoulders on this dress and the pretty teal green color! I think that if this had been a long sleeve top, I would have loved it a lot more than how I feel about this dress. The shape of this dress doesn’t compliment my figure whatsoever, so I’m really disappointed to see this dress in my box, as it doesn’t feel like this was picked out by the same person who styled the rest of my box.

Fifth piece: Urban Expressions Leandra Leopard Print Clutch

  • Color: Tan and black
  • Size: N/A
  • Cost: $38

I love animal print and I love accented statement pieces, so this leopard print clutch fits right into my comfort zone! This Leandra Leopard Print Clutch has gold chain straps that can be detached so you can just use this piece as a clutch, but I love how the length of the straps also give you the option to wear this statement piece as a crossbody or just to hang off of your shoulder.

This clutch is pretty roomy, which means that this clutch is actually useable and isn’t just a cute piece to look at! I love the print of this clutch and would love to see a pair of booties, a jacket, or a top with a similar pattern in a future Stitch Fix box!

Final thoughts on my November Stitch Fix:

My November Stitch Fix started off really well, but it didn’t end on the best of notes. The moto jacket was the only item that I decided to keep from my November Stitch Fix, but the moto jacket and the black ankle jeans are the two items inside of this month’s box that I felt like were truly picked for my style profile. The moto jacket and the jeans fit perfectly, and while the clutch was a nice addition, I think it was overpriced. I know I could find a similar clutch at Forever 21 or H&M for less than $20.

The blouse and the dress didn’t fit my body type or style profile at all, but the dress was the furthest thing away from what I would expect a stylist to choose for me (especially because I have my Instagram submitted to my Stitch Fix profile). As far as pricing goes, I do feel like the clutch and the dress was overpriced, but everything else in my box is what I would expect to pay for higher end plus size clothing.

Overall, I’m not absolutely in love with my November Stitch Fix, although I did love the complete outfit the moto jacket, the blouse, and the jeans made together. If I were to keep and purchase all of the items inside of my November box, I would get a 25% off discount, which would have equaled out to $80 off the total value of my box. With the $20 credit that automatically goes towards your account for each month, I would’ve spent $220 on $320 worth of clothing. I don’t think $100 discount is too shabby for medium and high-end plus size clothing!

Let’s see what Dia and Co curated for my November box!

Dia and Co Unboxing Video

c

The first piece that I pulled out of my November Dia and Co box is this Meri Skye Albany Long Sleeve Shaker Stitch Pull Over, which honestly has me shocked! This is a white sweater, but it really isn’t that see through for being a white sweater. Granted you can see my black bra and the waistband of my black leggings through the sweater, but I believe that part of the reason the sweater is see-through is that I’m in front of harsh studio lighting. In natural sunlight, I haven’t had any problems with this sweater being see-through. I have to admit that I’m not usually impressed with my Dia and Co boxes, but this sweater in my box has me so excited! I have such a hard time shopping for sweaters because I don’t want to spend an outrageous amount of money on a sweater that’s going to start pilling two times after I wear it. I also don’t want to buy a baggy sweater, but I also don’t want to wear a crop top sweater; I want a sweater that’s long enough to cover down to my hips and that’s long enough in the sleeves to partially cover my hands. I know, I can be really hard to shop for. I’m so happy with this sweater, plus I love the subtle off-the-shoulder cut that makes this sweater feel feminine, but isn’t too revealing for the colder months. I’m so in love with this sweater, so I decided to keep it- it’s cute enough to wear to holiday parties, but comfy enough to not need to layer a coat with to keep myself warm!

Second piece: Meri Skye Kensington Skinny Jeans

  • Color: Burgundy
  • Size: 18
  • Cost: $49

I love that I got a pair of jeans in my November Dia and Co, but I love even more that these aren’t just a plain pair of jeans! I love that they’re burgundy (which is such a fun color), but I also love the length, I love how stretchy they are, and I love how cute these jeans are with the white sweater! These jeans and the white sweater are from the same brand, Meri Skye, but I’m really impressed with the quality of the pieces that I received from Meri Skye! I don’t know if my stylist intended on me wearing the sweater with these jeans, but I absolutely love the color combination for the holidays!

Third piece: Meera Lane Cynthia Tabbed Sleeve Blouse

  • Color: Black and Coral floral pattern
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $45

The Meera Lane Cynthia Tabbed Sleeve Blouse is another shocker in my November Dia and Co box! I know this is another top with a floral pattern, but this isn’t a boring floral pattern that you literally see everywhere that sells clothing. This is a fun, almost summery floral pattern that looks like it’s been threaded, so the flowers all have texture to them. I also love the collar to this shirt, but I decided not to keep this top because it’s just a bit too snug. I don’t know the type of fabric that this shirt was made from, but I do know that it’s that not a very forgiving fabric that doesn’t have any stretch to it. This top was very tight across my bust, which therefore made the top too short on my abdomen. Paired with the burgundy pants that I got in my November Dia and Co box and I was able to get another really cute outfit! I am sad that this top didn’t fit me as well as I hoped it was going to, but I love how cute and unique the pattern on this blouse is!

Fourth piece: East Adeline Noelia Leather Trim Cardigan

  • Color: Brown
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $69

This cardigan is my least favorite item in the entirety of my November Dia and Co; I actually don’t understand why it’s in this month’s box, because it really doesn’t fit with anything else that I received. There is nothing else that this cardigan matches and style-wise, it’s so different than everything else that my stylist had picked out for me. I don’t like brown and black mixed together, but I do think that the leather (I don’t know if it’s real leather or if it’s pleather) is an interesting accent to this otherwise boring cardigan. I don’t think that the brown cardigan looks terrible with the floral blouse and the burgundy, but I also don’t feel like they necessarily go together either.

I know that there isn’t anything about this cardigan that’s age-specific, but I do feel like this cardigan makes me look a lot older than what I am. I do like how long the cardigan is in the sleeves and how it doesn’t feel too baggy on my body, but there isn’t really anything about the cardigan that I’m in love with (especially considering the price tag).

Fifth piece: Sabrina Collective Vachellia Sleeveless Sharkbite Fit and Flare Dress

  • Color: Tan and coral
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $65

This dress is absolutely stunning! I’m totally obsessed with the pattern on this dress, especially the cinching of the pattern around my waist, as I feel like it eventuates my waistline, making me look thinner and more voluptuous. I know I’ve talked about several times about how I want lower cut tops to be able to accentuate my bust, but I love empire necklines on my bust! I personally feel like empire necklines don’t make my bust look flat, but I am still able to shapely in a more modest taste.

The only downside about this dress is that I decided not to keep is because the cut and pattern aren’t really appropriate for winter. If this dress had been sent to me in a spring or summer box, there is no doubt that I would have kept it. But, since we’re just starting to face the cold months of winter, this dress just doesn’t fit into cold weather fashion.

Final thoughts on my November Dia and Co box:

At the end of most of my Dia and Co unboxings, I end up disappointed the majority of my box. Matter of fact, for most of the Dia and Co boxes that I received, I almost always feel like they never listen to my style profile and just pick out pieces that are in my sizing. For my November box, I actually feel like my style profile was looked at and listened to!

The only piece that I didn’t like inside of my November box was that cardigan and I’m still kind of confused on why that piece was included in my box because I don’t feel like it matched anything else in my box. All of the other pieces I received fit perfectly and were all pieces that I wouldn’t have picked out for myself in a store, but I totally fell in love with once I tried them on. I love all of the pieces so much that I can’t pick a favorite to share with you all!

November Stitch fix vs Dia and Co- who won?

I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but Dia and Co kicked Stitch Fix out of the race for this month! For Stitch Fix, I only really loved the moto jacket and the black jeans, but with Dia and Co, I loved four out of the five pieces. I also feel like Dia and Co sent out pieces in my box that were much more unique and interesting than what I received in my Stitch Fix.

Just take a look at the two floral tops I received; the floral blouse I got in my Stitch Fix box was a pretty commonly found blouse, but the floral top that I received in my Dia and Co box was something that I’ve never seen before! Not to mention that I was able to switch up two of the tops that I received in my Dia and Co box to make two outfits (minus the dress), while I was only able to make one complete outfit with my Stitch Fix box. I also feel like Dia and Co got closer to building a box that felt more personalized for my style and my body type rather than Stitch Fix did, even though that’s a first for Dia and Co. I got the same person to style my box for Dia and Co as I ask for every month, but I don’t feel like I got the same person who normally styles my boxes.

My Dia and Co box fit within my style preferences so much better than normal, although I am disappointed that the dress that I received wasn’t wintered ready, because I totally would have kept it if it had been more seasonally appropriate.

For both boxes being priced at $20 a month, I got a higher value out of my Stitch Fix box ($320) than I did with my Dia and Co box ($283), but I do feel like several of the pieces that I got in my Stitch Fix box were overpriced. In my opinion, I’m more impressed with the overall quality of pieces that fit within my sense of style in my Dia and Co box than I am impressed with the value of Stitch Fix. Dia and Co totally won this round of the battle of the boxes!

Who do you think won for November- Stitch Fix or Dia and Co?

Stitch Fix Unboxing Video

One thing that I want to make a quick note of before I get into reviewing my December Stitch Fix box is that Stitch Fix gives you the option to submit your Instagram profile to your profile, so your stylist can get a better understanding of what you wear and the types of clothing that you pick out for yourself. When I filled out my style profile, I submitted my Instagram assuming that my fashion Instagram would never be looked at by my stylist. n each box that you get, your stylist leaves a little note that summarizes some basic outfit details on how you can style the pieces that you received in your box.

With my December box, my stylist left a note that included a complement of an outfit that I had posted on my Instagram a few days prior to be box being built. The note was very personal and wasn’t a generic compliment that you could give someone unless you had seen my post, so it really made my Stitch Fix box feel like it was actually personalized. It was really exciting to see such a personal note in my box!

I Prefer StitchFix Personally

First piece: Honey Punch Harvie Varsity Stripe Pullover

  • Color: Navy with rainbow stripes
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $48

My stylist included this Honey Punch Harvie Varsity Stripe Pullover in my box because I asked for something with a pop of color to be included in my December box. This varsity pullover is super comfy, as not only is it a thick sweater, but it’s baggy in all of the right places. I don’t wear navy blue often, but I do really love the rainbow stripes on the sleeves of this pullover. The only reason I decided to not keep this varsity stripe pullover was that while I did enjoy how loose this pullover was, I didn’t think it was loose in the right places. For the fit of my abdomen, I loved how this pullover had the perfect mix of the fitted/loose combination. It was fitted enough to give the illusion of a figure, but it wasn’t too loose to the point where it looks like I’m wearing a pullover that’s two sizes too big for me.

I really love the length of the sleeves and how the chest wasn’t too tight in the bust area. What I didn’t love about the sleeves was that the sleeves were too baggy, almost like they belonged to a differently sized pullover. In my opinion, it felt like the sleeves didn’t match the fit of the rest of the pullover, which made me not super in love with the entirety of the fit for this pullover.

Second piece: Stella & Ruby Stella Drop Hoop Crystal Earrings

  • Color: Silver with clear rhinestones
  • Style: Hoops
  • Cost: $34

I also left a note for my stylist that I was looking to get something sparkly in my December box. It makes me so happy that both of the notes that I listed for my stylist were listened to and I received in my box! These Stella & Ruby Stella Drop Hoop Crystal Earrings are the touches of sparkle that I was asking for, but I think pair exceptionally well with the dress that I received in my box.

I did decide to not keep these earrings because there weren’t very sparkly. I had to hold these earrings indirect light to be able to see a little bit of sparkle out of the crystals. With other earrings that are similar, they tend to sparkle the best in low-lighting settings. I did think that these earrings were very pretty, but for $34, I could get something similar at Forever 21 or ICING, with way more sparkle than these earrings had.

While I wasn’t super impressed with how glittery these earrings were, I am very happy that my stylist listened to my special request!

Third piece: Fortune + Ivy Irene Faux Wrap Brushed Knit Floral Print Dress

  • Color: Burgundy
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $48

I absolutely love wrap dresses and this Fortune + Ivy Irene Faux Wrap Brush Knit Floral Print Dress is everything that I could ever want in a dress! I’m a huge lover of fun sleeves, so the ruffled sleeves on this floral print dress are honestly the first thing that caught my eye when I first tried this dress on. I also love the color burgundy on my skin tone, which is another note that I left in my style profile (yay Stitch Fix)! I said it in my November unboxing, but I am tired of seeing floral patterns for plus size clothing.

I can’t wait for a new pattern to take over the plus size fashion community, because the floral pattern that’s still all the rage for clothing manufacturers is pretty outdated. This floral pattern is something that I would expect to see on a pair of curtains or on a couch, but the burgundy color of this dress is what saves the day for this dress. Wrap dresses look absolutely outstanding on my figure, but I also really love wrap dresses because they’re something that I can continue wearing after weight loss. So far, I’ve lost 40 pounds in the last few months, but all of my wrap dresses still look absolutely amazing on my figure. I love how this wrap dress makes my bust look, as that’s something that I’m always looking to compliment when I pick out clothes for myself.

I also love the texture of this dress, even though I don’t know what material it’s been made out of. This dress has tons and tons of stretch to it, but no matter how tight I pull it, it hasn’t shown any signs of being see-through. It’s a super soft fabric that would make this dress great to wear for an extended period of time without feeling uncomfortable. This dress is such a perfect pick that it’s almost like it was built for my body and my body alone! I’m so in love with everything about this dress, even though I do think that it’s a little too chilly to wear this outside by itself. I decided to pair this dress with black tights, booties, and a moto jacket for days that it’s too cold to wear this dress by itself!

Fourth piece: Goldray Iman Lace-Up Shoulder Knit Top

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $48

My December Stitch Fix stylist did such an amazing job at picking out pieces that perfectly fit my fashion sense that they literally picked out a top that I already own! I don’t own this exact top, but I do own a top that’s very similar in feel, but has the same exact lace-up sleeves, in the same exact color. I’m actually really happy that my stylist sent me this top, even though I have one sitting my closet that’s almost exactly like this Goldray top. It made me feel like my stylist was a best friend that knew all about the types of clothes that I like to wear, which made my December Stitch Fix feel so personal.

Before trying on this top, I was worried that the sleeves were going to be a little tight, as that’s a problem that I have noticed in lace-up shoulder tops for plus size women. I love how fitted this shirt is, but the fabric that was used to create this knit top had a decent amount of stretch to it. The bust area was extra comfy, but the arm area is the part of this top that surprised me the most! The laces had some stretch to them, as well as the surrounding area around the arm. I did expect the arms to be able to move a little bit, but I wasn’t expecting the stretch to be as stretchy as it was. This is a really good thing because the fabric of this top is forgiving, which means that this the sizing that Stitch Fix offers isn’t just exclusive for one body type!

Fifth piece: Love & Legend Mayley Neck Detail Knit Top

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $49

The last item that I received in my December Stitch Fix box is the Love & Legend Mayley Neck Detail Knit Top in black. This knit top is a tank top, but it’s simple enough that I can wear it as is in the summer or layer it under bomber jackets or moto jackets for the colder weather. I really like how simple the lace is on this top is, as it makes it really easy to be able to pair this top with other patterns, textures, and colors without having to try too hard. I felt like this was a really good basic top to have in my collection, considering how easy it was to pair with a huge variety of other looks. I decided to keep this top to add to my wardrobe, as it’s perfect to wear all year round!

Final thoughts for my December Dia and Co box:

My December Stitch Fix box was absolutely amazing! This box felt so personalized and I loved everything in this box, even though I wasn’t super in love with the fit of the pullover hoodie. The total value of my Stitch Fix was $227, but if I had bought everything in the box I would have been able to apply a 25% discount off the entire value of my box and the $20 styling fee, leaving my total at $150.25 for $227 worth of clothing. I did only decide to keep the dress and the black neck detail top, as these two pieces I felt were perfect fits for me. I love how personalized my December Stitch Fix felt, as it really did feel like someone who knew me really well had put together this box for me. But, I can’t wait to see what Dia and Co have in store for us.

Let’s see what we got in our December Dia box!

December Dia and Co

  • How much is it? $20 a month
  • The total value of my December Dia and Co box: $293
  • What I got in my Dia and Co box:
  • Dex Plus Kara Three Quarter Sleeve Tee- $42 (size 2X)
  • Molly & Isadora Yukon Anorak Jacket- $79 (size 2X)
  • Molly & Isadora Dakota Destructed Boyfriend Jeans- $65 (size 18)
  • Kiyonna Drawstring Cardigan- $58 (size 2X)
  • Dex Plus Odin Lace Cross Over Top- $49 (size 2X)

Before we get into unboxing my December Dia and Co box, I wanted to make a quick note in regard to some changes I made with my style profile. From previous Dia and Co boxes, I felt like a lot of the boxes that I had received was filled with pieces that were overpriced. I went into my style profile and switched my ‘budget’ around to ask my Dia and Co stylist to send me the cheapest pieces they possibly could, as I wanted to see if there was going to be any difference in the prices of the items that they sent me and if there was going to any difference in the quality of the clothing they sent me.

I made sure to make that budget change the same day that I received my November box, meaning that I made that change in time for my December box to have a change in the pricing of the pieces that were selected for my box. The total value for my November Dia and Co box was $283, while the total value of my December Dia and Co box is $293, meaning that my box actually went up in pricing per an item. I double checked to make sure that my style profile still had submitted the cheapest selections possible, which it is still set to. Seeing that I had the pricing selection submitted to my Dia and Co stylist before I had even been charged for my December box wasn’t very encouraging. It was actually a little bit frustrating to see that despite the changes I made on my account, my December box was actually more expensive than my November box. This totally made me feel like my style profile isn’t looked at on a consistent basis (or at all) when my pieces are curated.

First piece: Dex Plus Kara Three-Quarter Sleeve Tee

  • Color: Black and coral floral print
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $42

Once again, my box contains a floral print top. I don’t think I would be as disappointed in receiving another floral print top in my Dia and Co box if I only was receiving boxes from Dia and Co, but at the same point, I just received a floral print top in my November Dia and Co box. I’m hoping soon my boxes will be a little bit more refreshing with new patterns, textures, and styles.

On the bright side, the length of this three-quarter sleeve top is perfect! I love where this top hits me on my hips and the sleeve length is really nice, especially for pairing underneath of jackets and cardigans! I’m all about layering clothing in the winter and the bright pink floral pattern on this top gives a colorful flair when layering with a jacket. The texture of this top is really soft and stretchy, but I also like how the top isn’t see-through across the bust area. I’m disappointed in the floral pattern on this top, but I love everything else about it!

Second piece: Molly & Isadora Dakota Destructed Boyfriend Jean

  • Color: Dark Wash
  • Size: 18
  • Cost: $65

I love that Dia and Co sent out a pair of jeans in my December box, as I always hope to get pieces that go together to make a complete outfit in my boxes. These Molly & Isadora are boyfriend jeans, which means that they’re baggy in the calf area; they are a lot more relaxed looking and fitted than your regular skinny jeans. I really don’t like the fit of boyfriend jeans on my body, as I feel like they make me look like I weight 20-30 pounds more than I actually do.

After trying on these boyfriend jeans, I discovered that I was totally in love with how these jeans made my butt and my hips look, although I wasn’t crazy about these jeans from the knee and down. I did like the distressing of these jeans as I feel like it made these jeans a little more ‘hip’, but the only thing that I really liked about these jeans is how the waist and butt fit. I feel like these jeans are a lot more appropriate for spring or summer, as they’re more capri length than they are ankle jeans. Considering that you can’t unfold the rolled up hems, these jeans are too open (with the boyfriend cut) and too short to be warm enough to wear in the winter. I’m not a huge fan of these jeans, although they aren’t the worst thing that I’ve ever received from Dia and Co.

Third piece: Molly & Isadora Yukon Anorak Jacket

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $79

Do you remember how I told you that the jeans I got in my December box weren’t the worst thing that I had ever received in my Dia and Co box? Well, this Molly & Isadora Yukon Anorak Jacket is absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever received in my Dia and Co box. First and foremost, I want to address how dirty this jacket was when I pulled it out of the box. When I took pictures and filmed my unboxing of my December Dia and Co box, I had literally received my box on my doorstep ten minutes before I started filming. This is how the jacket was shipped to me, this is how I received it. The entire jacket was covered in hairs, colored fibers, and small pieces of miscellaneous dirt. I don’t know if this jacket was covered in all of this hair because the jacket had been tried on by so many different people or if maybe because it just spent a lot of time hanging out at the Dia and Co storage facility, but this jacket was definitely
not clean.

I wasn’t very pleased about the jacket being so dirty, especially because it wouldn’t have taken very long for Dia and Co to have attempted to remove at least some of the dirt off of the jacket. But for a second, let’s just put how filthy this jacket was aside and let’s talk about the fit for a little bit. The jacket fits me, even though it was a struggle to get it zipped over my bust (the zipper isn’t the best quality I’ve ever used). I hate how bulky this jacket is and how much bigger this jacket makes me look; as a subscription box company that only styles plus size women, I would think
that Dia and Co would have a pretty solid understanding of not wanting to add bulk to a plus size woman’s figure. When dressing with plus size fashion, the point is to find slimming pieces that complement one’s figure- not to have articles of clothing that add bulk and girth to a woman’s appearance.

This jacket gives me squared shoulders, no waistline, and makes my body looks absolutely shapeless. Even unzipped, this jacket is incredibly bulky and doesn’t frame my body what so ever. I’m usually a lover of all jackets and jackets of any kind (because I love layering my outfits) but this jacket is such a disappointment. I can’t believe my stylist thought that this would fit in with my body shape at all, let alone my personal sense of style. Combine the horrible fit of this jacket with how filthy it is and you can probably understand why I’m very disappointed in my December Dia and Co box.

Fourth piece: Dex Plus Odin Lace Cross Over Top

  • Color: Black
  • Size: 2X
  • Cost: $49

Let’s take a second to mention that this a top that I’ve seen at Walmart before, and while it isn’t the same exact top, I know that the top that was available at Walmart that was very similar to this Dex Plus Lace Cross Over Top wasn’t more than $20. In other words, Walmart makes a very similar top to this piece that I received in my Dia and Co box for $20 cheaper. Walmart releases this tank top in a variety of colors for their summer collection, so seeing this lace cross over top in my box for December doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. If you put aside that I’ve seen this same exact top at Walmart, I’d also like to say that this top is so boring and plain. The only exciting or different piece that I got in my Dia and Co box was the floral print top, but you already know how I feel about the floral print. I don’t feel like this top is complimentary to my figure whatsoever, but rather hides all of the places that I like to show
off, and shows off the places that I want to cover (my arms get cold very easily). There’s one more piece in this box, so hopefully we can end the December box on a high note!

Fifth piece: Kiyonna Drawstring Cardigan

  • Color: Purple
  • Size: 2X
  • Price: $49

Purple is a different color that I have yet to receive in any of my clothing subscription boxes, but that’s really the only positive thing that I have to say about this cardigan. I haven’t decided which I dislike more- this cardigan or the anorak jacket (but probably the jacket because of how dirty it was). This cardigan just screams ‘maternity’ to me, which is what the plus size fashion community is constantly fighting against when it comes to clothing manufacturers. If the drawstring had been placed just a few inches lower and cinched in the cardigan around my hips, it wouldn’t have looked like a maternity cardigan. However, because this cardigan is cinched right underneath the bust (which could be where it would rest comfortably on a pregnant belly), this cardigan looks like a maternity cardigan.

Now, I’m only complaining about this because this cardigan doesn’t compliment my figure, but rather accentuates my stomach. If you untie this cardigan, it doesn’t look like a maternity cardigan, but it also doesn’t create a slimming illusion either. While I do like the color of this cardigan, I don’t feel like the fit of this cardigan fits with my body type at all.

Final thoughts on my December Dia and Co box:

The total value of my December Dia and Co box was $293, but if I had bought everything inside of the box, I would’ve gotten a 25% off discount and the $20 styling fee credit taken off of my total, meaning that I would’ve paid $199.75 for everything inside of your box. My December Dia and Co box was the worst box that I’ve ever received from Dia and Co, but for some many reasons. I think that sending out a dirty jacket in a box is unprofessional, and even if my stylist didn’t catch that the jacket was dirty, it just goes to show that the box is ‘personalized’ but isn’t personal enough for Dia to send you clean clothes. It may be a little harsh, but I know sending out a dirty jacket is an amateur movie and Dia and Co is one of the largest plus size fashion subscription boxes out there.

December Stitch Fix vs  Dia & Co – Which Won?

Stitch Fix made my December box feel so personalized!

Not only did my stylist send me the two special requests that I had for my box, but my stylist read through my style notes to find out what color dresses I love, what type of dresses I want more of in my wardrobe, and even sent me a sweater unlike anything that I had ever seen before! All of the pieces in my Stitch Fix box complimented my body shape and I received a mix of different styles of clothing in my body. With Stitch Fix, I felt like my fashion sense was being celebrated by being so personalized, that everything fit my body exceptionally well.

On the other hand, Dia and Co was almost the complete opposite of Stitch Fix. Put aside the dirty jacket, I don’t feel like anything in my box was meant for my age or my body shape. The floral top was nice and I loved the bright pink on the top, but I don’t feel like it’s anything different than what I’ve seen before.

The rest of the pieces that I got in my Dia and Co box didn’t fit my body shape, accented the parts of my body that I want to cover, didn’t fit style profile, made me look aged, and hid the parts of my body that I want to accent. I’m only 20 and besides the floral top, I wouldn’t have picked out any of the pieces that were put in this box for myself because they’re all a lot more modest, making them more mature looking. Stitch Fix, on the other hand, sends me pieces of clothing that I feel are appropriate for my age. Even if you are someone who likes to dress more moderately, the dress is the only piece in my Stitch Fix box that is revealing. The pieces I received in my Dia and Co box hid my body, which is something that doesn’t make me feel confident.

I loved how personal my Stitch Fix box, almost like a close friend had designed this box for me. My notes and my style profile for Dia and Co is exactly the same as what I have submitted for Stitch Fix (including a link to my Instagram), but Dia and Co didn’t follow along with the basic requests that I have submitted in my style profile.

Bottom Line: For my Dia and Co subscription, the December box felt like it was thrown together and like my style profile wasn’t paid any attention to. Stitch Fix won for December’s battle of the boxes, by a longshot!

  1. Thank you so much for your detailed information about these subscriptions! I got to your page by googling “Nadine West reviews” after receiving several disappointing shipments of boring clothing from them. They literally send me almost the same clothes (consisting of shapeless tops and leggings and gold jewelry that turns your skin green) in every shipment. I’ve kept a few items, and my daughters claimed a couple, but it’s not worth it to me to continue after receiving yet another shapeless, boring shipment today. I will also scour my bank statements due to your comments about problems with billing. After reading your reviews, I’m willing to try Stitch Fix to see if they can restore my hope in these clothing subscription boxes. Have a great night!
