UrbanStems vs. Farmgirl Flowers: A Floral Face-Off for the Perfect Bouquet

I’ll admit it: finding the perfect flowers for the right occasion isn’t as easy as it sounds. Sure, there are plenty of traditional birthday, anniversary, and sympathy arrangements available from several different floral delivery companies, but sometimes it feels like you need to shoehorn a particular arrangement in to fit your recipient’s vibe or a less traditional occasion. Maybe you want to celebrate that your bestie just ended a relationship and is feeling pretty good about her newfound independence, or maybe your brother just launched his design consulting agency and you want to send him something that’s a cut above the regular old rose and sunflower bundles.

I’ve been on a quest to test out all of the best flower delivery and subscription services to see how they stack up against one another. Today I’m going to take a look at two less-traditional darlings, UrbanStems and Farmgirl Flowers.

Let’s cut to the chase

While so far no one has been able to dethrone my new favorite flower subscription, UrbanStems, I have to say Farmgirl Flowers did give them a run for their money. UrbanStems still has an edge over them for their more diverse selection and slightly better prices, but Farmgirl Flowers also gets a pretty big thumbs up from me.

UrbanStems vs. Farmgirl Flowers: What Sets Them Apart?

At first glance, these two brands may seem similar—both offer nationwide flower delivery, fresh, boutique-style designs, and a more modern alternative to mass-market florists like 1-800-Flowers. But when you look closer, you’ll see the differences in style, ordering flexibility, and delivery speed.

Here’s a quick cheat sheet if you’re short on time:

Farmgirl Flowers: A Rustic, Farm-Fresh Approach

  • Signature burlap-wrapped bouquets with a rustic, farmhouse feel.
  • Sourced from North and South American farms.
  • No custom same-day delivery; bouquets, wreaths, and plants ship via FedEx, UPS, GLS, and other carriers.
  • Option to add a personalized video to your order.

UrbanStems: Modern, Boutique-Style Blooms

  • Bespoke arrangements designed in NYC with unique textures & colors.
  • Order with confidence—what you see online is what you get.
  • Works directly with Rainforest Alliance Certified farms for sustainability & transparency.
  • Same-day delivery in 8 major cities + nationwide next-day delivery.
  • A small selection of add-on gifts and vases.

Flower Selection & Design: Boutique Chic vs. Hand-Tied Arrangements

A bouquet isn’t just a bunch of flowers; it’s a statement. Whether you prefer sleek, structured designs or lush, hand-tied bundles, UrbanStems and Farmgirl Flowers take very different approaches to floral styling.

UrbanStems

UrbanStems’ arrangements just scream curated intentionality, like something straight out of an editorial spread or a high-end wedding. Their bouquets play with color, texture, and balance, featuring blooms like anemones, garden roses, and eucalyptus for a more refined and elevated feel.

If you want a structured, modern bouquet that feels fresh, artistic, and stylish, UrbanStems is a solid bet. I love how much variety they offer—you can really find something for every person and every occasion on their site.

My UrbanStems favorites include:

The Pretty in Pink with Gleaming Vase is a soft, romantic blend of pink roses and greenery in an iridescent vase—perfect for gifting.

The Aphrodite is a dramatic arrangement with deep, lipstick-pink blooms.

The Winter Blossom is a moody, seasonal bouquet busrting with rich purples, soft lavenders, and lush greenery arranged in a minimalist tan ceramic vase.

Farmgirl Flowers

Farmgirl Flowers embraces a more classic and cohesive aesthetic. Their full, hand-tied bouquets highlight timeless floral arrangements in warm tones with soft, complementary greenery.

Unlike UrbanStems, Farmgirl doesn’t guarantee specific flowers in each arrangement. You choose a bouquet style, but the flowers within depend on seasonal availability. They’ll give you a hint as to what to expect in terms of color and potential flower varieties. Some people will probably love this surprise element with each delivery, but if you’re picky about your flowers, it might not tick your boxes.

Farmgirl’s arrangements feel more traditional and abundant, making them perfect for anyone who loves a rustic look with lots of texture and volume.

My favorite Farmgirl Flowers include:

The Just Right Burlap Wrapped Bouquet. A classic, earthy bouquet wrapped in Farmgirl’s signature burlap with pink, orange, yellow, and white blossoms.

Grow Better with its bright and lively pinks, peaches, and hints of green.

The Pêche Mode, a peachy-colored arrangement with pops of blue and green leaves and petals.

Pricing & Value: Which Gives You More Value for Your Money?

Flowers are more than just a gift—they’re a meaningful way to celebrate, surprise, or brighten someone’s day. But how do UrbanStems and Farmgirl Flowers compare in terms of cost, service, and value? Here’s what you need to know:

UrbanStems Pricing

UrbanStems offers clear, upfront pricing, making it easy to see what you’re paying for—no hidden fees or bait-and-switch tactics. Their bouquets range from $50 to $90 for single arrangements, while larger bouquets range from $100 to $300.

I love their loyalty rewards program and referral discounts. Frequent buyers can earn points and unlock exclusive deals, a great incentive as I often send flowers to loved ones. UrbanStems also offers subscription savings, allowing me to save up to 30% and enjoy free shipping on repeat orders.

Delivery fees vary by location. For hand-delivered bouquets in select metropolitan areas, expect to pay $15 to $20. Nationwide shipping runs between $18 and $30, depending on whether you choose ground, express, or farm-direct shipping.

Overall, I found UrbanStems’ quality to price ratio to be excellent. It’s great value if you want high-end floral designs without paying unnecessary markups.

Farmgirl Flowers Pricing

Farmgirl Flowers is pricier, with bouquets starting at $55 and going up to $140, depending on the size. If you buy a Big Box bouquet, expect to pay a whopping $500!

I was a bit disappointed that Farmgirl Flowers doesn’t have a loyalty rewards program, but they have free shipping promotions on select bouquets. However, standard delivery fees can be steep. For example, where I live, delivery costs $25 on weekdays and jumps to $35 on weekends. While next-day delivery may be available, they don’t deliver on Sundays or Mondays, which can be a dealbreaker if you need flowers for a special someone’s birthday.

I also didn’t love that they automatically checked a box adding $5 worth of insurance to my order at checkout. It’s great that they offer insurance, but let me opt in, don’t force me to opt out.

Subscription Services: Variety vs. Consistency

UrbanStems and Farmgirl Flowers both offer subscription options—a huge plus if you love having fresh flowers around. One focuses on variety and surprises, while the other provides consistency and familiarity.

UrbanStems Subscription

UrbanStems offers a structured, easy-to-manage subscription to keep things fresh and exciting. They have three tiers:

  • Classic ($60 per delivery): Standard-sized bouquets.
  • Seasonal ($75 per delivery): Rotating seasonal bouquets, with a vase included in the first order.
  • Luxe ($105 per delivery): Premium bouquets, each with a custom vase, and a set of branded shears included with your first order.

Subscribers can choose their delivery frequency (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) and select how many deliveries they’d like, starting with a minimum of three for the prepaid option. UrbanStems delivers a new arrangement every time, so you never get the same bouquet twice. Free shipping is included for all subscription orders, making it an excellent option for those who love variety without extra costs.

Farmgirl Flowers Subscription

Farmgirl Flowers offers a somewhat different subscription model. Instead of a dedicated subscription program with tiered options, customers can select eligible bouquets as recurring delivery, choosing between weekly, biweekly, or monthly deliveries.

Unlike UrbanStems, Farmgirl’s subscription delivers the same bouquet each time, unless you manually switch to a different arrangement. This is great if you have a favorite style, but it doesn’t offer much variety.

Delivery & Packaging: Who Ships Faster & Looks Better?

When sending flowers, timing and presentation matter as much as the bouquet.

UrbanStems

UrbanStems excels in speed and reliability. They offer same-day delivery in 8 major cities (including New York, D.C., Los Angeles, and Miami) and nationwide next-day shipping for most locations. The company also delivers to hotels, hospitals, and office buildings, but you should check specific policies, as couriers typically leave flowers at the front desk or reception.

Flowers arrive in a sturdy, well-branded box to protect the arrangement during transit. Each bouquet is securely packaged to prevent damage, maintain freshness, and ensure a professional presentation.

Farmgirl Flowers

Instead of using custom delivery, Farmgirl ships via UPS, FedEx, and GLS, meaning customers have no control over which carrier is used. Delivery times can vary depending on location and shipping conditions. However, the company does use expedited shipping methods to ensure your flowers arrive in the best condition possible. I had no problems getting my flowers within a few days, but opted to wait until the following Wednesday rather than pay $10 more to have them arrive over the weekend.

A key selling point for Farmgirl is its eco-conscious packaging that reduces plastic waste.

One minor drawback? Farmgirl Flowers does not deliver to hospitals or P.O. boxes, which can be limiting for certain gift recipients.

The Arrangements

I ordered bouquets from UrbanStems and Farmgirl Flowers and both were gorgeous, but different. Here’s what I got:

UrbanStems

My UrbanStems bouquet was modern, colorful, and full of texture. I liked that they included some unconventional flowers, like thistle. The bouquet really felt like the “cool girl” of the flower world.

Farmgirl Flowers

If UrbanStems is the effortlessly chic cool girl, Farmgirl Flowers is the boho country girl. I loved the wild, rustic look of the bouquet, and the burlap wrap, which I was worried would feel a little gimmicky, added a really nice finishing touch.

My one complaint about Farmgirl Flowers is that the flowers were just ever so slightly wilted when they arrived. They perked up a bit after a night in water, but they were never as flawlessly fresh as the arrangement I got from UrbanStems.

Which Flower Service Should You Choose?

Still unsure? Here’s a quick rundown on which service works best:

Go with UrbanStems if:

  • You want Pinterest-worthy, luxury-style arrangements that feel boutique.
  • You prefer knowing what you’re getting (no surprises in size or flowers).
  • You need same-day or next-day delivery, even to hospital patients or a colleague in a high-rise building—because last-minute gifting is real.
  • You appreciate a sleek, polished gifting experience with well-designed packaging.
  • You’re looking for something unconventional.

Go with Farmgirl Flowers if:

  • You love rustic, seasonal bouquets with a fuller, wildflower aesthetic.
  • You like more classic flower arrangements and don’t mind the occasional substitutions based on availability.
  • You prefer an eco-friendly presentation (burlap-wrapped, fewer plastics).
  • You prioritize supporting a woman-owned business.

Final Thoughts: Who Wins the Floral Face-Off?

For modern, artistic arrangements, reliable delivery, super fresh flowers, and better pricing, UrbanStems wins in my book. Their thoughtful designs, predictable quality, diverse variety, and fast shipping make them the better choice for someone who wants a polished, boutique-style bouquet for any occasion.

Farmgirl Flowers is still a great choice, especially if you prefer a more rustic floral arrangement with a naturally hand-tied look. While their pricing runs slightly higher and delivery isn’t as fast, their bouquets embrace timeless styling with lush, elegant blooms wrapped in their signature burlap for a thoughtfully curated feel.
