- How I Ranked my Picks
- So What's My Final Verdict?
Are you trying to figure out which personalized vitamin service is right for you? You are in the right place!
Personalized vitamin subscriptions are becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and customization.
They offer a unique approach to health and wellness, allowing individuals to receive a tailored selection of vitamins and supplements based on their specific needs and lifestyle. This not only saves time and effort but also ensures that you’re getting the right nutrients for your body.
I personally love the idea of vitamins just for me as an easy to implement “health hack” for busy, on the go people (all of us?).
That said, there’s SO MANY new services out there promising a LOT of benefits.
Before getting started, I’ve generally noticed a few “levels” of personal customization with many of these “personalized” services. Broadly speaking, these are:
- Basic Personalization: Supplement company offering a wider and more specific array of directed supplements for age groups, gender, or life circumstances. These aren’t directly personalized to YOU, but they ARE more personalized and customizable than your standard multivitamins or supplements.
- Personalized Assessments: These brands generally have an intake process where they ask you a series of questions to narrow down supplement formulations specifically for what you need. They are generally relying on you to have a decent understanding of your own health situation, but if on point can be more effective than your standard supplementation.
- Genetic & Biome Testing: These companies actually order tests to determine exactly what’s going on in your body and then match supplements based on this data. This can take MUCH longer, but has the potential to be far more accurate (if tested correctly).
We’ve tried many of these personally across the spectrum, so here’s what I think:
Care/Of: Best Overall Customization
Summary: Care/Of stands out in the personalized vitamins market due to its highly customizable service and high-quality ingredients. They offer a subscription service that delivers personalized packs of vitamins and supplements tailored to your specific health needs.
Care/Of Advantages:
- Quality Standards: Care/Of’s vitamins are made with high-quality ingredients, ensuring you receive the best nutrients for your body.
- Easy: Their subscription service is a breeze to use, delivering your personalized vitamin packs right to your doorstep, ensuring you never run out.
- Personal Customization: After a thorough quiz, Care/Of provides a highly personalized pack of vitamins and supplements, making it one of the most customizable services in the market.
- Transparent Sourcing: Care/Of is transparent about where their ingredients come from, giving customers confidence in the quality of their products.
Care/Of Disadvantages:
- Price: While the customization and quality are high, so is the price. Care/Of vitamins can be more expensive than traditional over-the-counter vitamins.
- Limited Probiotics / Gut Health: Unlike some other services, Care/Of does not include probiotics in all their packs. It’s only available as an additional supplement.
Ritual Vitamins: Easiest to Get Started
Summary: Ritual Vitamins is a standout in the personalized vitamins market due to their transparency and simplicity. They offer a subscription service that delivers key nutrients directly to your door, and their products are non-GMO, vegan-friendly, and gluten and allergen-free.
Ritual Advantages:
- Transparency: Ritual provides clear details about the source and purpose of each ingredient in their vitamins.
- Simplicity: They offer a simple lineup of essential nutrients, eliminating the need to take multiple pills.
- Quality: Their vitamins are made with high-quality ingredients and are free from unnecessary fillers.
- Convenience: The subscription service delivers right to your door, ensuring you never run out of your vitamins.
Ritual Disadvantages:
- Limited Customization: Ritual vitamins are not as personalized as some other services. They offer a fixed set of nutrients that they believe are essential for everyone.
- Price Concerns: While the quality is high, so is the price. Ritual vitamins are more expensive than traditional over-the-counter vitamins.
- No Probiotics: Unlike some other services, Ritual vitamins do not include probiotics in their formula.
Despite the disadvantages, Ritual Vitamins are a great choice for those who value simplicity, quality, and transparency in their vitamins.

How I Ranked my Picks
Some of my criteria was more nuanced and based on subtle personal touches, but I tried to stick to the following broad selection criteria:
Quality of Supplements
My first task was to ensure the supplements are made from high-quality ingredients and are free from artificial additives.
I checked if the products are third-party tested or undergo testing at various stages of manufacturing.
Selection of Products
Does the service offer a wide range of products to meet the needs of most people? A good service should provide a broad selection of vitamins, supplements, and multivitamins to build holistic nutrition stacks.
Personalization
Personalization IS the point of these vitamin category. Some of the brands I found used “personalization” loosely, and really you just got a “choose from an array” of options.
I genuinely wanted some designed for me, my body, and health concerns / history.
Look for a service that provides recommendations based on a health assessment or test. You should be able to add or remove products as you see fit.
Helpfulness
Does the service provide evidence-based information about the supplements it recommends?
Access to health professionals, such as doctors or registered dietitians, can be a bonus.
Compliance with FDA Guidelines
Sometimes supplements fall in a grey area of “not evaluated by the FDA”. This is understandable for some types of supplements, but for as many as possible I wanted my supplements to adhere to FDA regulations and manufacture products in facilities that adhere to the current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs) established by the FDA.
So What’s My Final Verdict?
I have some favorites on this list (and some that I still subscribe to), but I don’t think my experience is necessarily the only guiding point here.
For example, my wife has some different health objectives and natural vitamin deficiency tendencies.
With this in mind, here’s how I’d break down the decision point based on some common health concerns that I see:
- First experience with personalized vitamins? Most people will find Care/of to be a positive experience.
- Already know what you need? Broadly speaking, Ritual vitamins has some additional specification, without the hassle of quizzes and genetic testing. A good option to use while you wait for these!
- Affordability is key? Go with Nurish by Nature Made here as the budget “knock-off” subscription (in a good way).
- Want state of the art genetic and gut testing? It’s hard to beat Viome here for all sorts of testing and their personalized supplement cocktail.
