Is Revive Superfoods worth it? If you are on a specific diet (vegan, dairy-free) and want an easy-to-order smoothie and meal service, give Revive Superfoods a try. It’s worth trying, and ordering is a breeze. But, after testing and tasting, I wasn’t that impressed with the flavors, variety of foods, and value for my dollar. I give this a 6/10 overall! So, worth a try, but I probably won’t order on the regular.
Revive Superfoods offers something unique if you are interested in a halal, vegan, vegetarian, and dairy-free food delivery service.
At face value, they have primarily smoothies, with a boatload of smoothie flavors, and I was truly, truly excited for the smoothies (and to a lesser extent, the rest of it). I was left hungry and fatigued after each meal, had to double up on meal items, and the smoothies were barely 3/4 of the way full when processed. Ah, the pain of dashed hopes.

Key Features
- Revive Superfoods has just that: superfoods, or those food items that originate from somewhere else but are considered very healthy
- Lots of smoothies
- Fruit and vegetables that are frozen the day they are harvested
Pros
- The smoothies have a lot of unique “superfoods” that are not necessarily locally available.
- The breakfast oat bowls are substantial.
- Many of the bowls have a balanced flavor that is vegan, vegetarian, halal, and dairy-free.
Cons
- The portions were relatively small.
- The frozen avocado chunks didn’t lose their color but lost their flavor (looking at you Tomatillo soup).
- A lot of the meals have a hefty dose of sodium, so they might be vegan-friendly, but they aren’t really that healthy.
Ordering
The ordering process for the company was straightforward. You go to the website, pick the number of items you want in your box, and start adding items and quantities into your box. If you fill your box, it will let you know, and you can naturally upgrade to the next section for a slightly higher price.
You get to pick the delivery day for each of your items, which is around one week away from your first order, and then you get to choose how often you want that same box to arrive. Unless you make other changes, the contents of your box will remain the same for each cycle.
Arrival
I noticed straight away that I was given explicit instructions on the inside of the box on how to properly dispose of the dry ice without touching it. Dry ice can burn you very quickly and very severely. However, the dry ice had evaporated by the time the package got to me. some of the items inside were starting to thaw.
This gave me pause because, given the tracking information, I knew that my package had left the UPS center at 6:00 in the morning and it didn’t get to me until around 4:00 in the afternoon, so even though they said it had enough dry ice in it that it could sit outside for a few hours, that certainly wouldn’t have been the case if I hadn’t been home when it was delivered.
I also noted that two of my containers had been slightly crushed, which caused a leak in the thawing fruit juices. The packaging wasn’t great, resulting in some bumps and leaks despite the firm outside box. At nearly $8 per smoothie, I expect zero leaks.
Straws
I am absolutely in love with the straw. The Smoothie straw is the best part of everything that came from this subscription. I love the slight bend and metallic design. Surprisingly, you don’t taste metal, which you normally would if, for example, mixing orange juice in a metal travel mug.
The only downside to the straw is that it starts to get very cold with a very thick smoothie, so your lips might turn blue.
Smoothie Quality
The mixture of items in the smoothies is a good idea at face value, offering a good combination of multiple fruits, avocado chunks for things like healthy fats, nuts, and seeds.
The downside, though, is that the quantity is surprisingly low. The amount of frozen material in each of the smoothie cups is around 1/3 of the total cup size, meaning 2/3 of the value you get from that smoothie isn’t from the fruit or the nuts, but from whatever liquid you use as your mixer.
When I mixed my first raspberry mango smoothie, I used a mango concentrate as my liquid, and that became the dominant taste because there was so little substance behind the rest of the smoothie.
A more significant issue is that smoothies need a specific amount of frozen material to get the right, thick, creamy consistency. With such a small material, you effectively have to add liquid and a couple of ice cubes on top so that it doesn’t just become juice.
Meal Quality
When it came to the meals themselves, they were decent for what they were.
Oats
Let’s start with breakfast (I did). I had one of the oat bowls with fresh berries and watermelon seeds.
I was a little frustrated that the instructions said I couldn’t microwave directly in the container but instead had to move it to a microwavable container and then, if I felt like it, put it back in the cup and eat out of the cup. That seems like a ridiculous oversight and an unnecessary step.
I added slightly less milk than was recommended because I would not say I like watery oats. I had to microwave for 6 minutes, and everything mixed up nicely when I took it out. You could tell that some of the berries had broken down in the microwaving process, and the liquid turned the entire oat bowl purple, which I love.
It wasn’t overly sweet, and for me, that’s very important because I would not say I like particularly saccharine breakfast foods. Under normal circumstances, I have steel cut or Irish oats every morning with two poached eggs and Tapatio on top. I go for savory rather than sweet.
The taste had echoes of fresh fruit throughout and instant oats at the forefront. So, if you compare it to a brand-name bag of instant oats that you tear and pour into a bowl with some apple and cinnamon chunks, it is undoubtedly better.
It was also a substantial amount of oats. It filled my bowl, and I don’t usually fill it with breakfast food. The oats give you a lot more bang for your buck than other food products.
Soups
I tried the tomato soup for dinner. It needed to fill more, although it was close. I topped it off with some dessert after the fact, and that worked just fine.
If I hadn’t purchased an entire container of Pop-Tarts, I probably would have thickened the soup with some extra grains.
One of my issues with it was that the soup called for a mix of different vegetables in addition to the tomatoes and quinoa. There was a teaspoon of quinoa in it at best. That was a pretty disappointing amount when you consider the size of the soup and the fact that grains are much more filling.
However, I was surprised that, as a tomato soup, it wasn’t a blended tomato base but rather a regular liquid base with chunks of delicious and vibrant tomatoes. I received one half-moon slice of zucchini and about 17 garbanzo beans (but who is counting?).
It had an excellent flavor to it because you could taste the fresh tomatoes, but there really wasn’t anything else behind that flavor, and it was otherwise very bland and unfulfilling.
Grain Bowls
The grain bowls were hit or miss. I loved the avocado and quinoa, but the chickpea and pomegranate had a lot of pomegranate seeds and pepitas, so you had to really chew through many things that were close to chipping a tooth.
At least here, the portion sizes were adequate; I barely had room for any dessert.
This was also the only food item that could be prepared in the box (not the cup). It was microwavable without any liquid added, which was neat. If I had chosen to make it on the stovetop, I would have had to add water or broth to it.
Note: In all of the soups and grain bowls, I was surprised at how much salt was in the recipe; many of them averaged 30% of your daily sodium intake. Given how flavorless they were, I have to question where all that sodium comes from.
Material Failure
The material for the actual cups was surprisingly flimsy. I really wasn’t comfortable putting my smoothie back into the container despite the fact that I loved the straw they sent.
If I were to make these smoothies on a daily basis, I would put them in one of my blender bottles because that’s much more secure. As the drink began to sweat and the water accumulated on the outside of the recyclable cardboard material, the structural Integrity of the cup diminished, and if I squeezed it too hard, it compromised the shape of the rim, which popped the lid off.
I grabbed it at one point, not but 5 minutes after I made the smoothie, and the lid popped off entirely. It wouldn’t go back on securely, so I ended up spilling raspberry mango smoothie all over the kitchen counter.

Cancellation
Out of everything, what annoyed me most was trying to cancel my subscription. I was very excited about the prospect of having a company I could use for preparing smoothies, especially when I knew I was going to have hectic weeks or months throughout the year.
But given the volume and the quality, I wasn’t sold, so I canceled, and they made it very challenging on the website to navigate to the deactivation section. Every time you click that you want to deactivate your account, it gives you a bunch of prompts for modifying your plan, adding something to your plan, or changing the quantity.
Once I finally got through three separate pages to the point of deactivating my account, it forced me to call their loyalty program in order to start the deactivation process.
When I did that, the Loyalty program representative said that she would be happy to help me deactivate my account, but first, she wanted to know why I was canceling and wanted to go over all the different ways she could keep me.
She offered several forms of discounts, loyalty points, modifications, speaking with another individual about the quality or quantity of the smoothies, and on and on. I continually interrupted her and told her I just wanted to deactivate my plan. Ten minutes later, they approved the deactivation.
I absolutely cannot believe that I not only had to use an online portal to facilitate that process but then had to call someone whose entire job was to keep me as a loyal customer.

FAQs
Question: How Does the Subscription Work?
Answer: They let you choose the plan based on how many items you want to put in your box that week. You can choose how often you want a delivery to come, whether it’s every week, every couple of weeks, or even every month. At any point, you can choose to skip a delivery, change the day you have your box delivered, or change the items that are in your box.
Question: How Long Will the Food Last in the Freezer?
Answer: Everything gets harvested from high-quality farms and frozen immediately to keep the nutrients and benefits in place. It’s recommended that you consume all of the products within two months, but they come with different use-by dates printed on the bottom.
Question: How Healthy are the Boxes?
Answer: So everything you get is called a “cup,” and each of the items they provide are paleo-friendly, dairy-free, vegan-friendly, and halal. This makes them suitable for just about every type of diet, which may or may not be the reason the flavors are so bland.
Tips
- Add ice cubes to the smoothies to make them thicker and fuller without unnecessary sugars or liquids.
- I liked to toss some cooked wheat berries or brown rice into some of the soups to thicken them; it helped make the meals more substantial.
Final Thoughts
I was most excited about the vast array of smoothies. Smoothies are their biggest category of product, and yet I was honestly let down by the volume of frozen foods. For the price they charge, you are definitely overpaying because you provide your own liquid. The tastes were a let down too.
In trying to make a food to fit every diet (halal, vegan, vegetarian, etc…) the end result was the most tasteless food which is odd given that the smoothies are around 25% of your daily sugar and the bowls around 30% of your daily sodium, so much for a healthier food option.
